Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (PGE) last week announced plans to build 600 megawatts of solar power at its Belchatow coal-fired power plant site in Poland's province of Lodz, with the possibility of building small-capacity wind power facilities
.
Under the strategy, the utility will install photovoltaic plants by the end of 2024 and may install about 100 MW of onshore wind facilities
within five to seven years.
Nevertheless, the company clarified that the wind power plan depends on the decision of the government to relax the existing policy, mainly planning to install turbines
near real estate homes and safe locations.
The PV plant will cover an area of more than 500 hectares (1,236 acres).
Some of them will be installed near
burning waste landfills at coal-fired facilities.
