Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on the 26th that Turkey has newly discovered 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas resources in the Black Sea region
    .

Erdogan said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting on the same day that the proven natural gas resources are 3,023 meters underground in the Chayjuma-1 well in the Black Sea region, with proven reserves of 58 billion cubic meters
    .
He said that the discovery also laid the foundation for future exploration of new natural gas resources in neighboring areas, and Turkey will carry out new exploration work
    as soon as possible.

Erdogan said Turkey's proven natural gas reserves in the Black Sea region reached 710 billion cubic meters
    .
Turkey's ultimate goal is to achieve self-sufficiency
    in oil and gas resources.

In June 2021, Turkey announced the discovery of 135 billion cubic meters of natural gas
in the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea.

At this stage, Turkey's oil and gas resources are highly dependent on imports
    .
According to the plan, Turkey hopes to reduce its external dependence on energy from 71% in 2021 to less than 50% in the next 10 years and to 13% in 2053
