Paraguay's total beef exports and exports will double in 2020, the highest since 2014, as a result of the global outbreak of new crown pneumonia, according to a new report from Paraguay's National Meat Quality and Animal Health Administration.
Paraguayan national newspaper reported on January 6th that The Senacsa report showed that Paraguayan cattle slaughtered in 2020 amounted to 1.8918 million head, up 6% year-on-year, with beef exports exceeding 271,000 tons, up 9.6% year-on-year, and beef exports totaling $1.115 billion, up 9% year-on-year.
In terms of export markets, Chile is the largest buyer of Paraguayan beef, with imports of 103.7 million tonnes and imports of $444 million, followed by Russia with 601,000 tonnes and imports of $205 million, and Taiwan third with imports Volume was 253,000 tons, with imports of $116 million, followed by Brazil with 211,000 tons and imports of $91 million, followed by Israel with 176,000 tons and imports of $92 million.

Regarding this year's target, Campelchioli noted that efforts will continue this year to expand the beef export market, the Japanese foreign minister will discuss beef exports with Paraguay next week, and this year the Paraguayan government will also hold beef export negotiations with the Turkish and U.S. governments, but this year's livestock industry will face serious challenges due to last year's severe drought in Paraguay.
In addition, Campelchioli highlighted Paraguay's important achievements in pork exports, which were licensed in December 2020 by Uruguay, one of the major pork importers in South America, and is expected to enter the Uruguayan market in the first quarter of this year.
