Joe Lasprogata, vice president and new product development manager of Samuels & Son, said in an interview with UCN: "We are willing to give genetically modified salmon a chance, but we will not buy it like crazy.
We consider going one or two batches first to see how the market reacts.
    "

"Since accepting genetically modified salmon, Samuels & Son will carry out some positive education and promotion to customers.
Every customer has the right to put forward their own opinions, even if they do not like genetically modified food, we will not force it.
But as an industry leader, We have an obligation to let customers know the whole thing, at least let them make decisions based on facts, rather than hearsay.
    " Lasprogata said.

Samuels & Son is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with distribution points in Pittsburgh, Orlando and Las Vegas, and has annual sales of more than $420 million.

At present, Samuels & Son has not finalized the price of the genetically modified salmon product, nor has it decided on the form in which it will be presented to customers, including the cutting and packaging of the product.
Lasprogata said frankly that no customer is interested in genetically modified salmon at this stage, and Samuels & Son is not the only distributor of genetically modified salmon, and it is difficult to determine the future demand.

However, Lasprogata, who has 40 years of working experience in the marine industry, spoke highly of the taste and texture of the AquAdvantage strain.
Lasprogata's own lThe inkedIn page brings together comments from many netizens, with mixed reviews.
Lasprogata also received 75 private emails, many of which were positive from the scientific community.

"I don't mean to change the world.
I personally have confidence in this product, and I understand the operation mode of the industry, and I know that the industry needs to improve the efficiency of the use of resources.
AquaBounty produces a healthy, delicious, and reasonably priced product.
Protein products, we want to push it to the table.
    " Lasprogata said.

Since its inception, the fate of genetically modified salmon has been twists and turns.
The United States and Canada approved the sale of genetically modified salmon in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
    In 2019, the U.
    S.
Food and Drug Administration lifted the import ban on genetically modified salmon eggs.
AquAdvantage roe was shipped in batches from Prince Edward Island, Canada to the RAS breeding base in Indiana, the United States.

On the other hand, in recent times, the protests of "reversal" people in the United States have become louder and louder.
In January, Aramark Corporation, another US food company, publicly stated that it would not purchase any genetically modified salmon products.
Two other catering companies, Compass Group and Sodexo, have joined a number of American catering and grocers to declare that they will never sell genetically modified salmon.
Some well-known American supermarkets and seafood catering companies such as Albertsons, Target, Costco, Trader Joe's, Red Lobster and Legal Seafood have also issued similar commitments.

Nevertheless, many investors are still optimistic about the prospects of AquaBounty.
On Wednesday, AquaBounty Nasdaq's share price rose to $6.
72/share, nearly three times that of a year ago ($1.
    85/share).
David Melbourne, Chief Commercial Officer of AquaBounty, told UCN that samples of genetically modified salmon have been delivered to interested distributors for tasting.
Samuels & Son is one of them, and the company is still waiting for more feedback.

"Since last summer, we have been in dialogue with major customers, including wholesalers, retailers and distributors.
From the beginning, some customers have expressed positive intentions, which is a great encouragement to us.
" Melbourne said, "We provide the market with safe, reliable, and sustainable Atlantic salmon.
We especially emphasize that these products are all produced in the United States, and we hope to resonate.
    "

Melbourne said that the pricing of genetically modified salmon is still being discussed within the company.
"My suggestion is that we benchmark the price of Atlantic salmon in Canadian cages.
    "

"The size of AquAdvantage finished fish is 8-11 lbs.
It only takes 18-20 months from roe to market, 8-10 months earlier than traditional salmon, and the feed coefficient is about 25% lower than that of traditional cage culture.
" Melbourne Said, "AquAdvantage products are all female sterile lines.
We have more than 20 years of RAS breeding experience and are fully capable of ensuring genetic safety.
