    On January 5, 2023, researchers from the University of Lisbon in Portugal published a paper in The Lancet Infectious Diseases entitled Stability of hybrid versus vaccine immunity against BA.

    on all coronavirus cases in people over 12 years of age.
    These data allow conclusions to be drawn about hybrid immunization, since at the end of 2021 Portugal had a vaccination rate of up to 98%.


    From these data, the research team calculated the risk of repeat infection over time in people who had previously received the new crown vaccine and were infected during the first wave of the Omicron epidemic, and thus came up with the effect of mixed immunity against repeated infection, showing that 8 months after the first Omicron infection, there is still a high protective effect
    against repeated infection.

    Compared to vaccinated but not infected, people who were vaccinated and infected with Omicron initially had protection against Omicron superinfection of about 90%, dropping to 70% after 5 months and stabilizing at around
    65% after 8 months.
    This suggests that the hybrid immunity established by vaccinated people after the first infection is fairly stable and able to protect against Omicron superinfection
    for a long time.
