       From Intrafish on March 22, several major seafood associations are supporting the National Organic Program (NOP) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which is considering applying organic standards to wild-caught seafood.
     
      This month’s National Organic Program project-led hearings, Pacific Seafood Processing Association (PSPA), National Fisheries Research Institute (NFI), Marine Processing Association (APA), and Alaska Aquatic Marketing Association (ASMI, Alaska Wild Cod Producers (GAPP) ) The trade organization participated and praised the approach to explore the expansion of all seafood market opportunities, including wild seafood.
     
      Americans rely on and trust the organic logo of the United States Department of Agriculture.
    It lacks market opportunities in the seafood industry and is now expanding that opportunity through cooperation.
    The collective opinions submitted at the hearing pointed out that the Alaska region leads the world in science-based marine resource protection and fishery management practices.
     
      Currently, the United States does not have organic standards for wild and farmed fish.
    However, according to the Organic Trade Association, the Organic Food Production Law does include seafood, which makes it possible to establish organic standards.
