    Vietnam and Belgium strengthen agricultural imports

    (People’s Daily) A reporter from the Vietnam News Agency in Brussels reported that within the framework of the working visit of the Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Wang Tinghui and a high-level Vietnamese delegation to the EU and Belgium, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam Liming Huan met with the Belgian Federal Middle Class on September 8.

    Minister Liming Huan emphasized that in the past 50 years, the cooperation between Vietnam and Belgium in many fields including agriculture has continued to develop

    In 2018, the two countries became each other's agricultural strategic partners
    .
    Therefore, Liming Huan proposed to increase strategic cooperation in agriculture based on the effective development of the potential and advantages of both parties
    .
     
    In order to continue to promote bilateral cooperation, Minister Liming Huan suggested that Belgium create convenient conditions for the agricultural, forestry and aquatic products of the two countries to enter each other's markets
    .
    Currently, Belgium is an important partner of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and aquatic products, and Vietnam's fifth largest trading partner in the EU
    .
    The above-mentioned products of the two countries do not compete with each other, but are complementary
    .
    Minister Liming Huan hopes that Belgium will assist the development of water transport logistics system and cold storage in the Jiulong River Delta, forming a transportation network for fresh agricultural and aquatic products in the region, and transporting them to the Port of Geme, the Port of Antwerp in Belgium and other ports in the world
    .
    Minister Liming Huan suggested that Belgium assist Vietnam in developing cocoa products so as to export cocoa to Belgium
    .
     
    Minister Liming Huan emphasized that Vietnam creates convenient conditions for encouraging Belgian companies to invest and operate in areas where the country has advantages such as Vietnam's port logistics technology, seawater desalination technology, remote sensing technology, and food preservation technology
    .
    The two sides continue to increase cooperation in technology research and development, transfer and training among the research institutes and regions of the two countries

      Minister Liming Huan hopes to continue to receive official development assistance funds from Belgium in order to continue to carry out strategic cooperation projects and agricultural development projects
    .
    Minister Liming Huan stated that Vietnam is severely cracking down on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU) and hopes that Belgium will give a voice of support so that the European Commission will consider lifting the "yellow card" warning against Vietnamese fisheries as soon as possible
    .

     
      Minister David Clarenwa hopes to promote the implementation of the "Agricultural Strategic Partnership Agreement" signed by the two governments with Vietnam, which promotes cooperation in technical training and transfer, promotes private investment, develops logistics systems, and provides services for the agricultural value chain
    .
     
      Minister David Clarenwa agreed with the proposal made by Vietnam and suggested that Vietnam develop logistics ports for investors in the country and create convenient conditions for exporting fresh fruits to Europe
    .
