Vietnam and West African countries have strong complementarity in cashew processing and export industries
    .
    This was the statement
made by the participants at the seminar "Potential for Investment and Management Cooperation between Vietnam and West Africa in the Cashew Nut and Agricultural Products Industry", jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the ASEAN Regional Integration Process Assistance Program (ARISE) on November 2.

Speaking at the seminar, Chen Ngoc Lien, manager of the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that Vietnam's cashew industry has made many great strides in processing technology and export value, and has become an important production, processing, import and export industry
    in the Vietnamese economy.

Since 2010, the cashew industry has been one of
the product categories with an export value of more than 1 billion US dollars.
So far, Vietnam's cashew nut exports have increased by 2.
2 times (with an average annual growth rate of 20%)
    .
In the past 15 years, Vietnam has maintained its position as the world's largest cashew kernel exporter, accounting for 80%
of the world's total cashew kernel exports.
While cashew kernels are exported, the import of coarse cashews is also increasing
    .
In 2021, crude cashew nuts imported reached a record high of 290 tons, 7.
4 times that of 2011, with an average annual growth rate of 64%.

Nguyen Thi Siang Wei, chief representative of the ASEAN Regional Integration Process Assistance Program Representative Office in Vietnam, revealed that at present, many African countries are building cashew processing ecosystems, including the construction of warehouses, primary processing areas, deep processing plants, etc
    .

In addition, African governments have introduced many preferential policies for investors, such as exemption from corporate income tax, exemption from land use tax, exemption from customs duties, exemption from value-added tax, etc
    .

Experts believe that Vietnamese enterprises should consider setting up offices in West Africa to proactively purchase crude cashew nuts and effectively solve the current shortage of
    raw materials.

In the long term, it is possible to invest in the construction of factories here, taking advantage of the existing sources of raw materials, cheap labor and preferential investment policies in West African countries for primary and further processing
    .
This, in turn, meets the demand for exports to the world and helps to increase the value
of Vietnamese cashew products in the global cashew chain.
