Vietnam’s "Business News" reported on September 13 that according to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of Vietnam , Vietnam imported 444,449 million tons of meat and meat products in the first seven months of this year , with imports amounting to US$87457 million, an increase of 20% and 46 year-on-year respectively.
    .
    7%
    .
Russia is Vietnam’s largest supplier, with an export volume of 66,700 tons and an export value of US$142.
93 million, an increase of 267.
    9% and 246.
    4% year-on-year respectively
    .

While imports of meat and meat products have grown substantially, livestock production such as pork and poultry is facing many difficulties, and prices have fallen sharply
    .
At the end of August this year, the price of live pigs in Vietnam fell by 1,000-2,000 VND/kg month-on-month, the lowest level since mid-2019
    .
In addition, poultry meat also has a downward trend.
For example, ordinary industrial chicken meat is less than 10,000 VND/kg, and native chicken meat is about 25,000-28,000 VND/kg, a decrease of nearly 20% from the previous month
    .

According to Nguyen Van Chong, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Production Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, this situation is due to the impact of the new crown epidemic, which has caused the supply chain and output distribution to be blocked
    .
Therefore, supermarkets and convenience stores of all sizes sell imported frozen meat to meet the needs of the people
    .

Nguyen Van reassessed that the actual imported pork only accounts for about 4-4.
8% of the total meat in Vietnam, so there is no need to worry
    .
With declining purchasing power, oversupply, and improved supply chain disruption caused by transportation difficulties, the demand for imported meat and meat products may decrease in the future
