    Vietnam's Minh Phu enters cell-based shrimp industry

    Singapore-based start-up cell-based shrimp product developer Shiok Meat has signed a memorandum of understanding with Vietnam’s Minh Phu Group to collaborate on “R&D for sustainable seafood production,” including the establishment of a new R&D facility in Vietn.
     
    "This collaboration is a step in innovation in sustainable farmed aquaculture, paving the way for traditional seafood companies to offer a diverse portfolio of traditional and cell-based products utilizing cutting-edge cell culture technologies," the statement sa.
     
    The two parties will also develop and sell cell-based shrimp products according to the terms of the cooperation, and launch a feasibility study for the large-scale production of cell-based shrimp, crab and shellfi.
     
    Sandhya Sriram, Chairman and Co-Founder of Shiok Meat, said: "The establishment of a joint R&D facility with Ming Fu Group is an important milestone in our developme.

    Currently, Shiok has two R&D bases, one in Thailand and the other in Austral.
    Last year, the company completed its latest bridge financing round, raising a total of $30 milli.
     
    Construction of its pilot production base in Singapore is also accelerating, Shiok said, aiming to launch the world's first cell shrimp product in at least one fine-dining restaurant in Singapore by 202
