On February 11th, Safeood News reported that The Province of Tearong in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam is taking various measures to develop climate change-adapting aquaculture, with plans to expand the area of local aquaculture by an increase of 2,500 hectares to 40,000 hectares by 2030.
province plans to earn an average of 420 million dong ($18,230) per hectare over the next 10 years.
The province plans to develop a way that is suitable for local conditions, adapts to climate change and meets the needs of domestic and foreign markets, and the project involves shrimp farming, particularly tiger shrimp, king shrimp and mackerel, which will be key products for sustainable development, environmental friendliness and export orientation.
The province will also expand the cultivation of brackish and freshwater species, such as prawns, sea crabs, clams, carnivore fish and blood clams, while increasing the area of caged aquaculture, and local farmers will be encouraged to move from low-yielding rice cultivation to integrated aquaculture of aquaculture, rice and fish.
