A meta-analysis of international cooperation published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (http://www.chemdrug.com/sell/76/) showed that the high circulating level of 25 hydroxyvitamin d [25 (OH) D] - up to 100% compared to the concentration lacking in bone health (http://www.chemdrug.com/article/7/) Nmol / l was associated with a significantly lower risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) in women, but not in men The authors collected raw data from 17 studies, and their team mastered different CRC risk factors and analyzed the subgroups The team found that subjects who lacked vitamin D [circulating 25 (OH) d levels less than 30 nmol / l] had a 31% higher risk of colorectal cancer during follow-up than those who had circulating vitamin D levels (50-62.5 nmol / L) that met bone health requirements The researchers obtained data from 17 prospective cohort studies involving 5706 CRC patients and 7107 controls In the past, substantial differences between assays made it difficult to integrate vitamin D data from different studies In a continuous model, the researchers found that each 25 nmol / L increase in circulating 25 (OH) d significantly reduced the overall risk of colorectal cancer in men and women The relative risk was reduced by 13% For women, the risk reduction was slightly greater than 19% For men, however, it was not so significant, with a relative risk reduction of only 7% A protective association of high circulating 25 (OH) d levels was found in all subgroups examined
