WACKER awards the Zero Carbon Award for its siloxane production process

The WACKER Zero Carbon Award was presented at this year's Sustainability Conference in Munich
.
A project team from the sites in Burghausen and Nünchritz won the first prize
for significantly improving the production process for silicones' most important upstream product: siloxane.

This year's Zero Carbon Award winners were awarded to Konrad, the process development division of the engineering unit in Burghausen and the technical management department of WACKER SILICONES Mautner's project team
.
They have succeeded in developing a process
that returns large quantities of silicone by-products to an integrated production system during chlorosilane hydrolysis.
Chlorosilane hydrolysis is part of an upstream silicone process that starts with metallurgical grade silicon and passes through the intermediate products chlorosilane and siloxane to produce silicone

It is reported that the award-winning process has been used on a large scale at the Nünchritz site and will also be implemented at the Burghausen site in the future
