Reference News Network reported on June 22nd that a study showed that there are genetic factors
the
of not eating breakfast.
A study involving experts from several universities, including
America
Harvard University and the University of Murcia in Spain, linked six
-gene
variants to eating no breakfast, the spanish newspaper Vanguard reported on June 19th, the first evidence of genetic factors in the habit.
study was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The study also points out that eating breakfast is the cause, not the consequence, of obesity.
"There are a lot of conflicting studies on the pros and cons of not eating breakfast, and we're conducting this study to see if there's a genetic factor in those who eat breakfast 'difficult'." Garrett said in a telephone interview from Boston.
study sequenced the genomes of nearly 200,000 people stored in UK Biobank, reflecting different genetic variations associated with breakfast eating habits, the bbc reported. Six separate genetic variants detected by the researchers were associated with the body's biological clock, sugar metabolism, caffeine effects and even schizophrenia.
the genomes analyzed showed that these genetic risk variables ranged from 0 to 6, and people with higher risk values were more likely to avoid breakfast.
, the study also showed a causal link between genetically determined eating without breakfast and higher body mass index, depressive tendencies and smoking habits. "Through this study, we were able to identify which genes were involved, and genetic methods can determine that not eating breakfast is one of the reasons for obesity, and that people who often don't eat breakfast are more likely to get fat." Mr Garrett said. The study concluded that getting into the habit of eating breakfast on time is good for the body as part of a healthy lifestyle. Han Chao.
