    Protease is one of many enzymes, which plays many functions in human body One of the main functions of protease is to process proteins as digestive enzymes Without this enzyme, the body can't digest the protein in food Other types of protease are involved in the regulation of coagulation and other cell activities These enzymes are also called proteolytic enzymes Proteins are long-chain amino acids bound together by peptide bonds Small pieces of protein are called peptides, while large pieces are called peptides The enzyme that breaks down peptides is called peptidase Protease is a type of protein that can accelerate degradation Exopeptidase cleaves terminal amino acids and nibbles at proteins They break down peptide bonds and release amino acids On the other hand, endopeptidase acts on the inside of protein, splits peptide bond and produces peptide There are many types of proteases, depending on the type of amino acid in which the reaction takes place and the additional molecules required for the activity For example, many proteins require a metal atom to move They are called metalloproteins Other proteases have an amino acid called serine at the active site and are called serine proteases Human physiology aims at the early research of protease, observing and understanding their role in the digestion of gastrointestinal system The goal of enzyme digestion is to break down large molecules into small ones Some proteases, together with peptidases, break down proteins in food into small peptides and amino acids These small molecules can be absorbed by small intestinal cells and used as fuel or to build new protein molecules A common feature of these digestive enzymes is that they are synthesized into larger inactive forms to prevent the tissue containing them from being damaged by enzymes These precursor forms are also called zymogens Although the cleaved proteins have different parts, the other thing they have in common is endopeptidase The characteristic of this enzyme is based on the location of specific amino acid target protein The stomach contains digestive enzymes called pepsin, which are stimulated by gastric acid salts Pepsin breaks down proteins into peptides that move in the gut Here, they are broken down into small pieces by additional digestive enzymes trypsin and chymotrypsin These enzymes are all serine proteases Other types of proteases regulate the activity of other proteins By cleaving specific parts of proteins, turn them on or off This may be one of the mechanisms of signaling physiological changes Another function of protease is to help process proteins such as amyloplast precursor proteins Other proteases break down proteins no longer needed for cell function.
