Animals can keenly feel the sounds of other individuals and the environment through their hearing

In this study, the author first obtained a deaf mouse strain 299 from the ENU chemical mutagenesis mouse population.

The authors further identified the pathogenic mutations in 299 mice, and no related mutations were found by second-generation sequencing.

Based on the 299 mice, the author systematically studied the cochlear structure and development process from the embryonic stage to the auditory formation stage, and the effect of the lack of stria vascularis on the morphology and function of hair cell hair bundles

In summary, the author identified the pathogenic mutation and pathogenic mechanism of a deaf mouse strain 299, using a series of technologies and methods, including auditory electrophysiology, hair cell electrophysiology, histology, and intracochlear potential recording , Mouse genetics and transcriptome sequencing analysis, etc.
