The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has launched a public consultation to share its initial views and plans on the identified spectrum, facilitate the early rollout and commercialization of 5G, and encourage the immediate expansion of 5G capacity
into existing broadband systems.
As ZICTA invites industry input and comment on its planning and permitting proposals for key 5G bands, it now seeks to gather information on the level of demand for the different bands under consideration and to understand industry spectrum acquisition plans and priorities

All feedback received will reportedly be used in conjunction with ZICTA's strategic objectives to inform spectrum planning and licensing decisions related to: identification of 5G priority bands; Adopt band allocation plans and bandwidth requirements for each operator; Development of a spectrum planning work plan aimed at preparing identified frequency bands for licensing; Develop fair and transparent licensing procedures appropriate to each frequency band, taking into account market needs; and developing a 5G spectrum roadmap

ZICTA has identified four frequency bands that meet "all requirements for the low, medium and high band spectrum categories required to meet 5G capacity and coverage requirements," namely the 700MHz, 2.
6GHz, 3.
5GHz and 26GHz bands

Among them, the 3.
5GHz frequency has "become a key focus of 5G"
in many other countries.
Therefore, as part of the consultation, one specific question it asked was whether respondents agreed that the band was "critical for 5G" to be deployed
in Zambia.
The deadline for submission of advice is 20 August 2021
