ADNOC Gas has signed a 10-year agreement to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to GAIL India, as demand for low-carbon fuels remains strong amid decarbonization efforts. In a statement issued to its stock exchange—the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange—ADNOC Gas said it expects to hold the world’s seventh-largest natural gas reserves and will supply GAIL India with 500,000 metric tons of LNG annually. Ahmed Alebri, CEO of ADNOC Gas, stated that this long-term LNG supply agreement with GAIL India marks an important step forward in fulfilling the company’s commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions to partners and customers worldwide. India remains a key market for ADNOC Gas, and this latest supply agreement underscores the company’s ongoing dedication to fostering long-term partnerships and promoting responsible energy consumption. As Asia’s third-largest economy, India aims to raise the share of natural gas in its total energy mix from around 6% today to 15% by 2030. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted in a February speech that the country’s LNG import capacity has nearly doubled since 2014—from 21 million tons per year to almost 42 million tons. ADNOC Gas holds 95% of the UAE’s natural gas reserves and supplies over 60% of the country’s domestic demand, serving customers across more than 20 countries. It has signed similar agreements with other global companies, including Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., TotalEnergies Gaz & Électricité, Indian Oil Corporation, and CNPC International.

Mint: India is negotiating with Equinor on oil and LNG cooperation.

According to the Mint newspaper, India is negotiating with Norway’s Equinor on its participation in India’s strategic petroleum reserves and on long-term LNG deals linked to Equinor’s U.S. and Qatar portfolios. The report, citing unnamed sources, stated that securing Equinor’s commitment would mark India’s second such deal following its similar agreement with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). Mint quoted an unnamed Indian official saying that, as the world’s third-largest energy consumer, India has also invited Equinor to participate in its exploration and production programs. Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported that state-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is negotiating long-term supply contracts with nearly a dozen LNG suppliers. An LNG agreement with Equinor would help strengthen India’s future natural gas imports. IOC has signed a long-term LNG contract with France’s TotalEnergies, calling for annual deliveries of 1 million metric tons over approximately 10 years.
