What was the outcome of the industrial action at the Ichthys LNG facility, and when did the strikes officially end?

The Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) and the Maritime Union of Australia—collectively represented by the Offshore Alliance—reached a settlement with Inpex Corp. to end strike action at the Ichthys LNG facility. Zach Duncalfe, national vice president of the AWU, confirmed the deal in an email, and the Offshore Alliance stated that all strike action would cease by 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Over 400 union members endorsed the settlement at 6 a.m. on the day of the announcement, and one train at the plant had already been shut down on Tuesday due to the industrial action.

What key improvements did the union agreement secure for workers at Ichthys LNG?

According to the Offshore Alliance, the settlement delivers 'significant gains in job security, pay, career progression, workplace rights and working arrangements' for union members. The agreement followed weeks of industrial action beginning in early June, during which workers engaged in partial work stoppages—including downing tools for several hours a day—to press their demands.
