[Hunan Fire Investigation Team] In one day and night, the truth behind the 'warehouse fire case' was finally revealed!

【Answer 1】 The investigation team was divided into six mixed groups to swiftly commence investigative work. Initially, the investigation team identified Li Feilong as a key suspect. According to findings by public security authorities, evidence indicated that Li Feilong was not present at the fire scene prior to ignition. Following interrogation of Li Feilong and administration of a non-contact electrodermal polygraph test, investigators determined he was not lying; thus, suspicion of arson committed by Li Feilong was ruled out. At the case analysis meeting, the investigation team unanimously concluded that arson could be excluded as a cause of this fire, and public security authorities issued a formal written opinion to that effect. Determination of the fire’s origin: Identification of the point of origin: Based on discoloration patterns observed on the color-coated steel panels, discoloration and deformation were most severe in the northwest corner. The steel beam directly above the northwest corner also exhibited severe deformation. To further verify the accuracy of the identified point of origin—and prevent potential deviations in burn patterns caused by objective conditions—the investigators examined potential ignition sources surrounding the suspected origin: 1. The fire began at approximately 9:05 p.m., but power was cut off at 9:10 p.m. No electrical arcing or melting traces were found during on-site inspection, ruling out the possibility of an electrical fault in the wiring on the west side of the wall separating the warehouse from the electrical room. 2. Faults in the portable power strip were likewise ruled out. X-ray scanning of the power strip remnants revealed no fault-induced melting traces. 3. Fire caused by e-bike charging was also ruled out. Although overall burn patterns suggested heavier damage toward the front, examination of the rear aluminum wheel hub showed fire spread progressing from the right-rear toward the left-front. Laboratory testing of the vehicle’s exploded lithium battery detected no fault traces. 4. Weak ignition sources—such as cigarette butts—were also excluded. Only Chen Longhai held the warehouse key; he left the facility at 4:40 p.m. on the day of the fire, after which the warehouse remained locked. Furthermore, the combustion pattern did not match characteristics typical of smoldering ignition. The fire’s cause is therefore suspected to be spontaneous combustion of yellow phosphorus, which Chen Longhai had illegally stored, igniting nearby combustible materials such as cardboard boxes. Nonetheless, five independent lines of evidence all pointed to the same root cause: 1. Surveillance footage showed the earliest smoke emitted was yellowish-white. 2. During the investigation, the provincial fire investigation canine unit was deployed to locate hazardous chemicals at the scene, thereby guiding precise collection of physical evidence. 3. Regarding fire behavior: This fire developed rapidly and exhibited clear open-flame combustion characteristics—ruling out weak ignition sources or residual embers—and aligning precisely with the known rapid ignition profile of spontaneously combusting yellow phosphorus.

A fire that 140 firefighters couldn’t extinguish ended up exposing the deepest fissure in America’s logistics industry.

【Answer 2】 In the early hours of April 8, 2026, a massive warehouse—spanning 1.2 million square feet—erupted in flames in Ontario, California. When firefighters arrived on the scene after receiving the alarm, they confronted thick smoke billowing continuously from the roof and a fire already beyond control. This warehouse served as Kimberly-Clark’s distribution center, storing highly flammable paper products—including tissues and diapers. Due to the abundance of such combustible materials, the fire spread rapidly, escalating into a major conflagration. Firefighters quickly realized internal suppression was no longer feasible; efforts shifted immediately to defensive firefighting. Over 140 firefighters were mobilized on-site, supported by joint resources from multiple regional fire departments. Though the blaze was eventually brought under control, dense smoke lingered for several hours across surrounding neighborhoods, and ash even drifted into nearby residents’ yards—prompting local advisories urging people to limit outdoor activity. To date, no casualties have been reported—a rare piece of reassuring news amid this disaster. Yet as the investigation progressed, the nature of the incident began shifting dramatically. Police swiftly identified a suspect: 29-year-old Chamell Abdul-Karim. Initially believed to be a warehouse employee, he was later confirmed to be affiliated with NFI Industries—a third-party logistics provider contracted by the warehouse operator. Even more critically, Abdul-Karim had previously been listed as a missing person—his true identity only clarified upon his arrest and detention by police. Investigators noted the fire’s unusually rapid spread. Even though the warehouse’s automatic sprinkler system activated promptly, flames still overran the entire structural framework within minutes—a progression inconsistent with typical accidental fires. Fire authorities thus concluded early on that this was very likely an act of deliberate arson. The suspect now faces multiple serious felony charges and remains in custody without bail, while the investigation continues—examining surveillance footage, witness testimonies, and other evidence. Had matters ended here, this would simply be another severe criminal case.
