Why is Engie confident about bidding for gas plant tenders in Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain?

Engie's CEO Catherine MacGregor stated the company is 'well positioned' to bid for newly announced capacity remuneration mechanism tenders in Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain because these mechanisms pay producers to provide backup power during demand peaks or low renewable output — a role increasingly filled by gas plants as countries phase out nuclear and coal. She emphasized Engie's selective interest in reinforcing flexible generation in Europe, contingent on adequate conditions, and confirmed active preparation for Germany’s December tender, including secured land and ongoing engagement with equipment suppliers amid current gas turbine scarcity.

What specific progress has Engie made toward participating in Germany’s gas plant tenders?

Engie has a gas plant project 'under development' and is preparing to participate in Germany’s second auction, expected in December; the company has already secured land and is 'well engaged with the supplier on securing the equipment'. CEO MacGregor underscored the strategic necessity of this timing, noting it would be 'foolish' to position for December otherwise, given the current scarcity of gas turbines.
