How influential is Gunvor Group in the oil industry?

This relates to my own industry—so please bear with me. Among commodities, energy (including crude oil, electricity, coal, and natural gas) accounts for the largest trading volume; other major categories include agricultural products, metals, and chemical products. Among energy traders, ranked by turnover, the top firms are Vitol, Trafigura, Mercuria (after acquiring J.P. Morgan’s North American commodities division), and Gunvor. Glencore also conducts substantial energy trading—its volume is smaller than Vitol’s but possibly larger than Trafigura’s and Mercuria’s. Gunvor was founded on Russian crude oil (its two founders are one Russian and one Swiss national) and held dominant market position in the Urals crude market for a considerable period. However, according to unofficial reports, Gunvor’s market share in Russia has declined in recent years, and its overall business development has consequently been less robust. That said, its annual turnover exceeding USD 100 billion still commands significant influence in the market. The influence of each trading house varies across different markets. Markets can be segmented either by commodity type (e.g., crude oil, refined products, coal, natural gas, electricity) or by geography (e.g., in a given African country, one trading house may be the undisputed leader, whereas another firm holds that status in a different country). In the North Sea benchmark oil market (i.e., Brent), these trading houses—alongside major oil companies (BP, Shell, ExxonMobil, Total, etc.)—participate in price formation via the Platts window. I am unfamiliar with the WTI pricing mechanism in North America—please feel free to supplement this point… The benchmark oil market is precisely where global crude oil pricing power resides—a domain in which China’s three major state-owned oil companies currently wield very limited influence.
