Marvell’s Q2 Net Income Soars 154% Year-on-Year

On August 27, after U.S. market hours, Marvell Technology—a provider of networking chips and ASIC design services—released its fiscal second-quarter 2027 financial results, covering the period ended August 1. All key operating metrics exceeded market expectations, and the company raised its two-year revenue targets. However, the earnings growth fell short of the capital markets’ heightened expectations, causing its stock to decline 7.8% in after-hours trading. Growth accelerated notably versus the prior quarter, driven by AI-related interconnect and custom ASIC businesses. Revenue from the communications and other end-market segment totaled $567.8 million, up 10% year-on-year but down 3% sequentially. This divergence in growth rates reflects Marvell’s ongoing strategic reallocation of resources toward the high-growth AI data center sector. The increasing share of custom ASICs—which carry lower gross margins than standard networking chips—was the primary reason for the slight year-on-year decline in non-GAAP gross margin. For the upcoming fiscal third quarter of 2027, Marvell forecasts revenue of $3.15 billion (±5%) and non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.10—both figures ahead of analysts’ consensus estimates. Management indicated that data center segment revenue is expected to rise more than 20% sequentially and surge 75% year-on-year in the third quarter. The company has raised its long-term revenue outlook for the second consecutive quarter: full-year fiscal 2027 revenue guidance has been increased from $11.5 billion to $12.0 billion—a 45% year-on-year increase. Fiscal 2028 revenue guidance has been raised directly from $16.5 billion to $18.0 billion, implying an anticipated annual growth rate of 50%; data center operations remain the primary growth driver, with an annual revenue growth target exceeding 60% for this segment.
