Notably, during its Series C financing round, Zeng Yiqun—the founder of CATL—invested RMB 200 million in Innoscience in his personal capacity. As early as 2002, Suzhou began promoting the layout and establishment of related industries—including integrated circuit (IC) design, manufacturing, and packaging & testing. Today, Suzhou has become one of China’s regions with the highest concentration of resources and the most advanced industrialization level in the third-generation semiconductor sector. ‘Opportunity always favors the prepared.’ Suzhou’s long-term strategic planning in the IC industry has made it an ideal location for Innoscience’s growth. From the initial funding supporting Innoscience’s establishment in Suzhou to cornerstone investments for its IPO, Suzhou provided strong backing throughout. In December 2024, Innoscience listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange at an offering price of HK$30.86 per share, raising approximately HK$1.4 billion. This IPO attracted four cornerstone investors—including STMicroelectronics and Jiangsu State-Owned Enterprise Mixed-Ownership Reform Fund—with total committed subscriptions amounting to USD 100 million—over half the total IPO proceeds. Following its listing, Innoscience continued expanding its production capacity advantage. In July 2025, the company announced it would increase its monthly 8-inch gallium nitride (GaN) wafer output from 13,000 to 20,000 wafers. Previously, Innoscience stated it aims to scale up monthly capacity to 70,000 wafers within the next five years. Meanwhile, Innoscience announced a joint development agreement with STMicroelectronics to jointly advance GaN technology applications across consumer electronics, data centers, automotive, and industrial power systems. Under the agreement, Innoscience may use STMicroelectronics’ manufacturing capacity outside China to produce its GaN wafers, while STMicroelectronics may leverage Innoscience’s domestic manufacturing capacity to produce its own GaN wafers. This collaboration not only enhances Innoscience’s supply-chain flexibility but also reflects international semiconductor giants’ recognition of its technical capabilities. III. Bright Prospects Gallium nitride (GaN), a leading third-generation semiconductor material, demonstrates outstanding performance advantages—including high frequency, high voltage tolerance, and high electron mobility—making it highly promising for applications in electric vehicles, data centers, and photovoltaic power stations. According to Frost & Sullivan, the global GaN power semiconductor market is projected to reach RMB 5.01 billion by 2028, accounting for 10.1% of the global power semiconductor market. Innoscience’s products are already widely adopted in the new-energy vehicle sector. Its automotive-grade GaN chips have entered the supply chains of BYD and NIO, covering medium- and low-power applications such as in-vehicle LiDAR and on-board chargers (OBCs). In the first half of 2025, deliveries of Innoscience’s automotive-grade chips surged 128% year-on-year. In the AI and data center domain, following its partnership with NVIDIA, Innoscience will provide end-to-end GaN power solutions for NVIDIA’s 800V DC power architecture—positioning it to capture 20–30% of the future data-center power-system upgrade market.

The challenge lies in the nature of new-materials industries: massive upfront investment, slow returns, and relentless pressure across R&D, capacity expansion, and customer acquisition—leading inevitably to severe cash-flow strain. On the positive side, the narrowing losses suggest its restructuring efforts are headed in the right direction; on the downside, it still faces a long, dark road before reaching profitability. Innoscience is very much a ‘star of the future’—but whether it will shine brightly hinges entirely on whether it can survive this prolonged loss-making phase. 4. Vanchip Technology Vanchip specializes in RF chips and, riding the wave of domestic substitution over recent years, garnered significant attention. Yet in the first half of 2025, its revenue totaled just RMB 987 million—a 7.9% year-on-year decline—and it posted a net loss of RMB 9.43 million. Though the absolute figure appears modest, it is acutely painful for a small- to medium-sized enterprise. The root cause lies in cutthroat competition: fierce price wars in mid- and low-end RF module markets have squeezed profit margins to near zero.
