SpaceX releases its first financial report: Q2 revenue reaches $7.81 billion, up 92% year-on-year—what highlights are worth noting?

On August 4, 2026, SpaceX (Nasdaq: SPCX) filed documents with the SEC disclosing its second-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2026, ended June 30. This is the company’s first quarterly report following its IPO in June. During the quarter, SpaceX reported consolidated revenue of $7.814 billion, up 92% from $4.071 billion in the same period last year; net loss narrowed to $541 million, down 46.3% from $1.008 billion in the prior-year period. Net cash inflow from financing activities totaled $100.291 billion for the first half of the year, while net cash outflow from investing activities amounted to $34.487 billion. Revenue breakdown: Starlink accounted for 55%; AI rose to 33%. The report attributes accelerated revenue growth to Starlink’s subscriber base doubling, surging connectivity contracts with enterprise and government clients, and new AI cloud service agreements driving infrastructure-related income. All three major business lines—Starlink, AI, and launch services—recorded year-on-year revenue growth. Starlink Business Revenue reached $4.291 billion, representing 54.9% of total revenue, up 66% year-on-year; operating profit was $1.656 billion, up 79% year-on-year. As of quarter-end, Starlink had 12 million subscribers—double the 6 million a year earlier—and added 1.7 million net new subscribers sequentially; average revenue per user (ARPU) stood at $66/month, down from $85/month a year earlier. The company did not separately explain the price decline, only disclosing $2.485 billion in consumer-facing revenue and $1.806 billion from enterprise and government clients. Beyond the consumer segment, Starlink’s expansion into government and enterprise markets has also been robust: securing a $6-billion Starshield contract with the U.S. Space Force; partnering with multiple international airlines and telecom operators; and completing the acquisition of EchoStar’s spectrum assets. AI Business Revenue totaled $2.561 billion, accounting for 32.8% of total revenue, up 247% year-on-year and 213% sequentially; of this, $2.194 billion came from AI solutions and infrastructure, and $367 million from advertising. Operating loss in this segment narrowed to $1.257 billion, down from $2.469 billion in Q1; adjusted EBITDA turned positive at $1.146 billion. The company disclosed that newly signed cloud service agreements generated $14.1 billion in contracted sales this quarter, contributing $1.6 billion in incremental infrastructure revenue; Grok 4.5 was launched in July; and the proposed $60-billion acquisition of coding tool Cursor is expected to close in Q3. Space Launch Business Revenue was $962 million, up 29% year-on-year; operating loss widened to $542 million, compared to $369 million in the same period last year. In the first half of the year, SpaceX conducted 78 launches, delivering 1,041 metric tons to orbit—including 61 internal launches and 17 commercial launches. Starship V3 completed its Flight 12 suborbital mission in May and Flight 13 (actual launch occurred in Q3) in July, achieving orbital satellite deployment, in-space Raptor engine restart, and soft splashdown.

As a reminder, we refer to our diagnostics business as 'Genomics,' which consists primarily of two segments: oncology and genetics. In oncology, we observed a significant acceleration in year-on-year volume growth during Q2—driven by improved efficiency finally materializing after last year’s sales team expansion. We performed approximately 84,000 NGS tests this quarter, versus ~66,500 in Q2 2024—a 26% increase (up from 20% last quarter). Oncology revenue for Q2 2025 totaled $133.2 million, up 32.9% year-on-year, driven by higher test volumes and an increase in average selling price (ASP). All major therapy selection assays performed well this quarter, with strong growth across the entire product portfolio—including our flagship assays xT (for solid tumors) and xF (liquid biopsy), both of which accelerated growth rates this quarter. ASP for Q2 2025 remained essentially flat at $1,580 versus Q1 2025, largely influenced by product mix—Jim will elaborate further below. Finally, although we see encouraging signs across all aspects of our MRD (minimal residual disease) portfolio, reimbursement from MolDX remains pending—not just for us, but also for Personalis. Until then, we will constrain the scale of our MRD offerings and limit related investments. We offer the industry’s most comprehensive MRD testing suite—covering colorectal cancer (CRC), breast cancer, lung cancer, and immuno-oncology (IO)-related cancers—and include highly sensitive whole-genome sequencing (WGS) assays informed by tumor profiling, as well as competitive tumor-informed assays. Accordingly, we anticipate rapid volume growth once reimbursement is secured—potentially providing meaningful tailwinds for future clinical test volume growth. In hereditary cancer, we continue to demonstrate strong momentum: approximately 128,000 tests were completed in Q2 2025, significantly up from ~97,000 in Q2 2024. Total hereditary cancer revenue reached $97.3 million, representing a 33.6% year-on-year increase on an adjusted basis, with test volume rising ~32% year-on-year. Hereditary cancer screening remains the primary growth driver, though we continue expanding rare disease and pediatric testing services—segments we believe will become important contributors to our business over the coming years. Although we have only operated Ambry for a few quarters and cannot yet make long-term projections, there is reason to believe our hereditary business’s long-term growth rate may exceed initial expectations. In the near term, we continue gaining market share while remaining confident that the hereditary screening market will expand further across oncology and other disease areas. Looking back, this makes logical sense. While approximately 1.9 million new cancer cases are diagnosed annually in the U.S., far more people are at risk of developing cancer at any given time. In other words, the population at risk vastly exceeds the population already diagnosed. As the leader in hereditary cancer testing—and with our ongoing expansion into rare diseases and pediatrics—we are uniquely positioned to fully capture this opportunity.
