BASF of Germany ranks third on the list, with sales revenue reaching USD 3.709 billion and a market share of 14.49%. On October 10, 2025, BASF announced the sale of a 60% stake in its automotive OEM coatings, refinish coatings, and surface treatment businesses—valued at EUR 7.7 billion—to The Carlyle Group and the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). The transaction officially closed on June 30, 2026, and the business commenced independent operations under the new name “Surventis” on July 1, 2026. Public information shows that the company is headquartered in Münster, Germany, and operates over 30 production and R&D facilities worldwide—including the world’s largest integrated coatings manufacturing base. Its portfolio includes well-known brands such as Chemetall®, Glasurit®, and R-M®. It serves three core business segments: surface treatment, OEM coatings for mobility, and automotive refinish coatings. In October 2026, the industry-renowned media outlet CoatingTimes released the “Top 30 Chinese Automotive Coatings Brands Ranking 2026.” The combined automotive coatings sales revenue of the listed brands totaled RMB 30.4693 billion, up 3.83% year-on-year; they accounted for 62.95% of China’s total automotive coatings market share—a decrease of 4.36 percentage points year-on-year. Among them, domestic brands occupied 17 spots, generating cumulative sales of RMB 10.2343 billion—33.59% of the ranking’s total revenue—while foreign brands held 13 spots, achieving cumulative sales of RMB 20.235 billion—66.41% of the ranking’s total revenue. The top ten brands collectively generated RMB 23.7776 billion in sales revenue, up 2.51% year-on-year, accounting for 78.04% of the ranking’s total sales revenue. Foreign and domestic brands were evenly matched in this tier. By细分 business segment, foreign brands dominate passenger-car OEM coatings, premium refinish coatings, and battery-cell coatings, whereas domestic brands are rapidly gaining ground in commercial-vehicle coatings, automotive refinish coatings, and component coatings. The project involved a total investment of RMB 30 million and added annual production capacity of 23,000 tons of automotive coatings—including 5,600 tons/year of clear coat, 2,400 tons/year of hardener, 2,200 tons/year of waterborne refinish coatings, and 12,800 tons/year of waterborne topcoats.
