Newsom steals the spotlight at the United Nations!

Trump’s biggest political rival stole the show at the United Nations, lavishly praising China’s climate achievements in front of the entire world. Newsom bypassed the White House to represent California at the UN Climate Change Conference, openly lambasting Trump. He showered China with praise whenever it came up. Recently, the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) opened in Brazil. Surprisingly, the United States—the world’s largest country—sent not a single official from the White House. Even more bizarrely, while the White House was absent, Gavin Newsom, Governor of California—a U.S. state—attended the summit. In his speech, he repeatedly criticized “the U.S.” while emphasizing that “California is not like that,” as if California had already “seceded” from the United States—“America is America, and California is California.” This is what Newsom said: “The United States has repeatedly acted foolishly on climate policy—but not in my California.” Newsom also stated that Trump is merely “temporary,” whereas California’s commitment to tackling climate change is unwavering—and will persist long-term. The current state of the U.S. reveals deep fragmentation: partisan divisions have increasingly evolved into governance rifts between state and federal authorities. California and the U.S. federal government operate under two distinct governance models—presenting a profoundly “fractured” America. Of course, what grabbed even more attention was Newsom’s stark contrast in tone: while fiercely criticizing Trump, he transformed entirely when speaking about China—becoming an enthusiastic “praise master,” heaping effusive compliments upon China. For instance, upon hearing topics related to China, Newsom immediately broke into a smile and offered high praise, declaring that China’s climate governance has reached “an entirely different level.” In Newsom’s view, China’s pursuit of clean energy development is not driven by a desire for global leadership, but rather by its recognition of vast economic opportunities. Newsom noted that China is massively transforming how energy is produced and consumed—and leads globally across multiple clean-energy sectors, including electric vehicles and batteries. He lauded China’s approach as strategically visionary—precisely what the U.S. lacks and most urgently needs to develop. His reasoning? Because clean energy is cheaper energy—with lower costs—it can directly address America’s top concern: reducing the cost of living. Yet we know the current U.S. administration has failed to prioritize this issue. Indeed, on the very first day of Trump’s second term, he signed an executive order withdrawing from the Paris Agreement. Trump deeply despises this issue—he once claimed climate change is “a total hoax.” To Newsom, such views are utterly incomprehensible. Speaking before numerous international media outlets, Newsom declared that if a Democratic president assumes office in the future, the U.S. would rejoin the Paris Agreement without hesitation—not only as a moral obligation, but as an absolute economic necessity.

The tipping point has arrived! China’s carbon emissions have remained flat for 18 consecutive months; the green-tech wave is reshaping the global landscape | 2048

China previously set 2030 as its target year for achieving peak carbon emissions. Now, it appears highly likely that China will reach this milestone five years ahead of schedule—an achievement that will undoubtedly stun the world. Moreover, two critical trends must not be overlooked: first, China’s industrial and manufacturing capacity continues to expand; second, its carbon emissions have been absolutely curbed. Clearly, with China now standing at the forefront as a successful model in addressing climate change, nearly 200 countries and regions worldwide are adopting one of three stances: One group is boldly following in China’s footsteps, embracing China’s path; Another remains hesitant and indecisive about whether to emulate China; And the third treats China as a negative example—as a political target—namely, the USA, the so-called “Beautiful Country.” After the Trump administration withdrew from international climate agreements, the U.S. has become a source of climate-related disaster for the world—yet politically, this vacuum has afforded China greater space and influence in global climate governance. In September, the Chinese government announced, for the first time, an absolute target for greenhouse gas emission reductions. Under this new plan, China aims to cut its nationwide greenhouse gas emissions by 7–10% below peak-year levels by 2035—the first time China has explicitly set an overall emissions reduction target. UN Climate Summit (COP30) in Belém, Brazil Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, USA—and also a leading contender for the next U.S. presidential election—delivered a sharp critique at the COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil, on November 11, denouncing the federal government’s absence as “doubling down on stupid” and warning that this move risks leaving the U.S. behind in global economic competition. This Democratic governor appears to have finally found the perfect platform to launch blistering attacks against his political rival, Trump. He stressed that although the Trump administration rolled back environmental regulations, promoted coal, and obstructed green-energy development, U.S. states—including California—continue advancing global climate action. After Trump returned to the White House earlier this year, he signed, for the second time, an executive order withdrawing from the Paris Agreement. In an interview with the Associated Press, Newsom criticized Trump’s denial of the climate crisis, saying: “If you don’t believe science, then believe your own eyes.” He cited record-breaking global temperatures, ocean acidification and coral bleaching, as well as California’s frequent wildfires and deteriorating air quality. One of the world’s most terrifying phenomena—the California wildfire Newsom told reporters: “California is both the most blessed and the most cursed place on Earth—we stand on the front line of climate change impacts: wildfires, droughts, and floods occurring simultaneously. Does anyone truly care?” Newsom’s statements are constantly corroborated by news media: massive wildfires in California have occurred almost annually in recent years—each one burning so intensely and persistently that it commands global attention until fully extinguished. California is the economic core of the United States and a pioneer in climate policy—but after Trump took office, his administration temporarily restricted California’s authority to enact progressive environmental regulations, including blocking its policy to ban the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles within ten years.
