What exactly is Tilray? What are its products? What is the overall outlook for the cannabis industry? Is this merely a flash-in-the-pan sector destined to fade after a brief speculative frenzy? I. What kind of company is Tilray? Tilray is a Canadian medical cannabis company. Its largest shareholder is Privateer Holdings, a Seattle-based private equity firm; Brendan Kennedy, CEO of Privateer, also serves as Tilray’s CEO. According to its official website and IPO prospectus, Tilray integrates medical cannabis research, cultivation, processing, and sales—and is the first medical cannabis producer globally to obtain GMP certification. Opioids refer to natural resin exudates extracted from opium poppy capsules, plus semi-synthetic analgesic and anesthetic drugs derived therefrom—including heroin and opium itself. Per the group’s strategic plan, residential renovation is expected to account for 50% of total business going forward—a healthier, more balanced model. Recently, a Jin Tang Lang executive was caught in a bribery case, causing the stock to dip temporarily. For eight consecutive years, its non-performing loan (NPL) ratio has stayed under 1%. Its provision coverage ratio exceeds 400%. Its dividend payout ratio ranks just below the Big Four state-owned banks—but its dividend yield tops them all. Will the bank’s net profit vanish next year? Will it stop paying dividends to shareholders? Banking regulations evolve constantly—but one principle remains inviolable: never engage in high-risk activities capable of triggering a financial crisis. Though industries differ, profits are profits—pure and simple. Sixth, Minsheng Bank: Among the dozens of deeply undervalued “cigar-butt” stocks, Minsheng is arguably the cheapest. It lacks Nanjing Bank’s prestige, so I bought only a small position. Seventh, Dongfeng Shares: ROE has consistently surpassed 15% over the past five years. However, its most recent quarterly results—possibly impacted by environmental compliance measures—fell short of expectations. Its full-year report may therefore fail to sustain the 15%+ ROE threshold. Primarily engaged in cigarette packaging, the company is actively diversifying into pharmaceutical packaging, milk cartons, and other new ventures. These new businesses are varied and wide-ranging—but have consumed substantial capital. For now, cigarette packaging remains its primary profit driver. I plan to sell this holding after the Lunar New Year. Eighth, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC): I bought this stock impulsively—following the crowd—with only a small position. Yet it has performed remarkably well. I intend to research it more thoroughly when time permits—though right now, I’m financially stretched: my portfolio is rising sharply, and frankly, I lack both funds and motivation to dig deep into company analysis—ha ha!
