FTSE Russell, the world’s second-largest index provider, has just announced a major overhaul of its U.S. growth and value indices—introducing caps on the weightings of large constituent stocks. As a result, over $7 trillion in equity funds face significant reconstitution. On Friday local time, FTSE Russell announced that it will impose weighting caps on constituent companies within its Russell Style Indices—primarily the growth and value indices: - No single company’s market capitalization may account for more than 22.5% of a style index; - Collectively, companies each representing 4.5% or more of the index may not exceed 45% of the index’s total weight. The adjustments will take effect starting next March, and will be implemented following each quarterly and annual review.
