Reflections on Solana's Current Challenges and Future Outlook

If we observe the project team actively addressing issues, that can strengthen our confidence in holding SOL. Moreover, the logic behind today’s top-tier copycat projects (i.e., tokens ranked within the top twenty by market cap, plus a few select platform tokens) closely resembles U.S. equity investment logic—and will increasingly converge toward value investing over time. Of course, Uncle Miao has been consistently dollar-cost averaging into SOL, and I explicitly state that, assuming SOL’s fundamentals remain unchanged, its future outlook should be quite promising. That said, problems inevitably arise—something every holder must thoughtfully consider and understand. 1. In 2025, a substantial portion of Solana’s ecosystem transaction volume is driven by memecoins; many high-quality dApps also rely on memecoin-related protocol revenues for sustainability. However, over the past year, memecoin trading volume has declined noticeably—and this downward trend continues. Moreover, such decline may intensify due to user attrition. 2. Therefore, the critical question now is: if the Solana ecosystem loses the momentum—or transaction-volume boost—provided by memecoins, can it still return to its earlier peak performance? This hinges on Solana’s ability to rapidly capture market share in emerging domains—such as prediction markets and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Currently, leading RWA projects and prediction markets are predominantly built on Ethereum. While I agree Solana will likely catch up—and even outperform (as seen with DLMM)—Uncle Miao hasn’t yet observed such dApps materializing on Solana.

Honeywell’s Art of Corporate Divestiture: A Century-Old Industrial Giant

You’ve probably seen couples who can’t make their marriage work—divorcing, splitting the house, the car, even custody of the kids—messily, awkwardly, with relatives pleading for reconciliation and children in tears. The spectacle entertains outsiders; the heartache stays within the family. Honeywell’s divestiture, however, is executed with remarkable grace, efficiency, and theatrical flair. Honeywell—a living fossil of American industry—has done just about everything over its century-plus history: thermostats, aircraft navigation systems, gas masks, plastics, nuclear fuel, warehouse barcode scanners. Its portfolio is vast—like a middle-aged man who dabbled in calligraphy and piano lessons but never mastered either. So in October 2024, it announced: “I’m splitting up the company.” Not as a casual experiment—but a definitive, three-way split. When news broke, observers assumed this was just another old-money corporate slim-down—a tired, familiar playbook. Investment banks braced themselves to draft tear-jerking research reports. But Honeywell responded with action—and a quiet message: “You don’t get it. This is ‘strategic divestiture.’” Its separation agreement reads with icy precision. Assets aren’t divided per capita—but by business line: automation goes to automation; aerospace to aerospace; advanced materials to advanced materials. On October 30, 2025, the advanced materials division spun off first, rebranding as Solstice, with NASDAQ ticker SOLS. How did existing shareholders fare? For every four shares of Honeywell stock held, they received one share of Solstice—achieving near-tax-free separation without major disruption. Six months later, on June 29, 2026, the aerospace division followed suit, launching under ticker HONA. What remained—the parent company, Honeywell Technologies—focused exclusively on automation, building management, and software: the steady, bread-and-butter businesses. Three entities. Three headquarters. Three independent boards. No more needing to defer to one another; each now charts its own course. You think this is dissolution? No—it’s empowerment: enabling each to build its own legacy. And then—the real drama began. Less than nine months after the spin-off, on July 6, 2026, Solstice—the newly independent materials business—announced it would acquire Element Solutions for approximately $14.5 billion. What does $14.5 billion mean in practice? Roughly $12 billion in cash and stock—and $2.5 billion to assume Element Solutions’ debt. What does Element Solutions actually do? It handles seemingly dull—but extraordinarily valuable—work. Its subsidiary MacDermid Alpha specializes in chemical materials for semiconductor packaging and electronic assembly: wafer electroplating, advanced packaging interconnects, specialty reagents for Chiplet and HBM stacking, and copper electroplating solutions for PCBs. In plain terms: once a chip is manufactured, it needs to “communicate” with circuit boards, “stack” with other chips, dissipate heat, and conduct electricity—all relying on chemical materials supplied by Element Solutions. Especially noteworthy is its ActiveCopper technology, deployed in high-performance circuit boards for AI servers: the hotter AI gets, the hotter demand grows for this tech. Do you sense the nuance yet? What did Solstice originally hold in its portfolio? Semiconductor materials, data-center liquid cooling, thermal management, fluorine chemistry—and even uranium conversion services tied to nuclear energy.
