In the first half of this year, national renewable power generation approached 2 trillion kWh, an increase of approximately 9% year-on-year, and accounted for 41.2% of total power generation—exceeding the combined electricity consumption of the tertiary industry (991.6 billion kWh) and urban and rural residential users (731.5 billion kWh). Thus, renewables met nearly 40% of society’s total electricity demand. Wind and solar generation together reached 1.25 trillion kWh, up 9.3% year-on-year, accounting for 24.6% of total societal electricity consumption—or one-quarter—and reaching about 1.3 times the electricity consumption of the tertiary industry (991.6 billion kWh). Incremental renewable power generation amounted to 159.8 billion kWh, covering 61.9% of the increment in total societal electricity consumption. (I) Hydropower Construction and Operation Status. In the first half of this year, newly grid-connected hydropower capacity nationwide totaled 6.03 million kW, including 3.03 million kW of conventional hydropower and 3 million kW of pumped-storage hydropower.
