Brutal! Four missiles hit an Iranian supertanker—three Iranian tankers struck overnight!

A ruthless 'piece-for-piece' tactic: U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth ordered the U.S. military to strike *all* Iranian tankers! Iran had been waiting for this moment—and before dawn broke, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) went all out! The flames over the Persian Gulf had barely faded when the naval confrontation between the U.S. and Iran shifted tactics: America bombed Iranian tankers; Iran, in turn, immediately targeted merchant vessels linked to the United States. Neither side escalated instantly to direct strikes on each other’s homeland—but both delivered a fierce round of blows across the world’s most sensitive energy corridor. On September 5, local time, consecutive explosions rocked the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The U.S. Central Command publicly confirmed that U.S. forces had launched strikes against three tankers carrying Iranian crude oil and linked to the IRGC, successfully hitting all targets with four missiles. The stricken vessels included the M/T KYLO and STARK 1, plus another tanker operating under the same network. The M/T KYLO was located off Kharg Island, while STARK 1 was near Jask Port—both carrying crude oil. After missile impacts struck their hulls and propulsion systems, both vessels lost all navigational capability and were left stranded motionless on the water. Kharg Island is no ordinary port. It is one of Iran’s most critical petroleum export hubs—vast quantities of crude are loaded here for shipment to Asian and other global markets. Striking tankers at Kharg Island inflicts more than just physical damage to steel hulls; it directly disrupts a pivotal node in Iran’s oil export chain. The third targeted tanker was empty—located in the Gulf of Oman. Prior to the strike, U.S. forces repeatedly issued warnings via maritime radio channels, ordering crew evacuation. The warning issued to STARK 1 was highly specific. During the first broadcast, U.S. forces gave crew members three minutes to evacuate the stern; during the second, the window shrank to one minute; and the third broadcast delivered a final ultimatum demanding immediate abandonment of the vessel via lifeboats. Only after confirming full crew evacuation did U.S. forces open sustained fire on the hull—ultimately destroying the vessel entirely. This approach sent a clear signal: The U.S. aims not merely to warn Iran, but deliberately to dismantle Iran’s maritime transport capacity. External estimates suggest Iran operates roughly 120–150 deep-sea tankers. Among these, a portion is controlled—or effectively operated—by the IRGC, serving both crude transportation and sanctions-bypassing functions to generate foreign exchange. America’s calculus is straightforward: The IRGC uses missiles and drones to attack third-party merchant vessels—damaging assets owned by foreign shipping companies. In response, the U.S. directly destroys Iran’s own tankers. Superficially, both sides appear engaged in mutual attrition—but the value and replaceability of their respective 'pieces' lie on entirely different tiers. Global merchant and tanker fleets number in the thousands; Iran, however, lacks sufficient large-vessel construction capacity. For Iran, every sunken tanker means one fewer operational vessel—and no rapid replacement is possible. The U.S. seeks, through such precision strikes, to gradually strangle Iran’s oil export logistics. U.S. officials stated the immediate trigger for this clash was the IRGC’s launch of ballistic missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships conducting patrols in the vicinity.

Spillover of Middle East conflict: Saudi airports attacked, Persian Gulf tankers hit; Trump plans new action against Iran; Brent crude surges above $102.

The Middle East situation deteriorated sharply within days. The Houthi movement launched consecutive attacks on two major Saudi airports, causing casualties; a tanker was struck by projectiles near Qatari waters—the first such incident deep inside the Persian Gulf in nearly a month; meanwhile, the White House reportedly instructed the Pentagon to draft a plan for striking Iranian targets, potentially to be executed before the U.S. midterm elections. Amid this confluence of shocks, Brent crude surged past $102 per barrel, as market anxiety over potential Middle East supply disruptions spiked sharply. According to CCTV News, the Yemen conflict has recently intensified significantly. On the 7th, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea announced that, over the preceding 24 hours, Saudi Arabia had carried out 156 airstrikes and missile strikes across six Yemeni provinces. Since this escalation began, Saudi-led operations have totaled 1,798 airstrikes and missile attacks. In response, the Houthis launched retaliatory strikes using ballistic missiles and drones against multiple targets inside Saudi territory—including as far as the capital, Riyadh. According to an article by Wall Street Insights, citing Bloomberg, The Atlantic reported—based on disclosures from two U.S. government officials—that the White House has directed the Pentagon to formulate a strike plan targeting Iranian assets, with possible implementation before next month’s midterm elections. This news directly upended the market’s prior consensus expectation—that Trump would maintain relative restraint ahead of the election. Beyond geopolitical tensions driving oil prices, supply-side disruptions continue to accumulate. As noted in the Wall Street Insights article, Tropical Storm Isaias forced the shutdown of over one-quarter of crude oil production in the Gulf of Mexico. According to data from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the storm is expected to intensify into a strong Category 2 hurricane over the coming days. Meanwhile, official U.S. data shows last week’s nationwide crude and refined fuel exports rebounded to seasonal historical highs, while national crude inventories fell by 3.2 million barrels. Dual Saudi airport attacks: 3 dead, 36 injured According to Bloomberg, the Iran-backed Houthi movement attacked two major Saudi airports, causing significant casualties. The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) confirmed in its statement that King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia were struck sequentially between the 6th and 7th, resulting in 3 deaths and 36 injuries. Specifically, the Riyadh airport attack killed one Sudanese male and injured five Saudi citizens, two Egyptians, and one Pakistani resident; the Abha airport attack killed one Moroccan woman and one Algerian woman, and injured 28 others—whose injuries varied in severity. According to CCTV News, Houthi spokesperson Sarea stated the attacks employed ballistic missiles and drones, targeting not only the two airports but also the Khamis Mushait Air Base, the Al-Aqifa military camp, and two additional military camps in the Jizan region—disrupting air traffic at both airports, damaging military installations, and inflicting dozens of military casualties. The Saudi-led multinational coalition swiftly launched a large-scale retaliatory campaign. Coalition spokesperson Turki Al-Malki announced in a statement that coalition forces destroyed 82 Houthi military targets across four Yemeni provinces—Saada, Al Hudaydah, Al Jawf, and Marib—including ballistic missile storage sites, command-and-control centers, and communications systems.
