Nerea was created to address the growing gap between rapidly increasing global plastic production — which reached approximately 431 million tonnes in 2024, nearly doubling over the past two decades — and persistently low recycling rates, as much plastic waste continues to be incinerated, landfilled, or leaked into the environment; it responds to tightening regulations in Europe and globally that are driving stronger demand for recycled and circular feedstocks.
