According to data from China’s National Bureau of Statistics, national electricity generation rose linearly from April to August this year. In August alone, electricity generation reached 723.8 billion kWh, up 6.8% year-on-year. From January to August, total electricity generation amounted to 4,772.8 billion kWh, up 0.3% year-on-year; raw coal production totaled 2.45 billion tonnes, up 2.6% year-on-year; and total coal imports reached 220.753 million tonnes, up 0.2% year-on-year. China’s National Bureau of Statistics indicates that thermal power dominates China’s electricity generation mix, accounting for 72%. From 2015 to 2019, thermal power generation increased annually, reaching 5,117.3 billion kWh in 2019—a 3.49% increase year-on-year. Since April 2020, electricity production has accelerated, with notable growth in both thermal and hydroelectric generation. In August 2020, national thermal power generation stood at 509.0 billion kWh, up 6.2% year-on-year (compared to a 0.7% year-on-year decline in July); hydropower generation reached 141.0 billion kWh, up 8.9% year-on-year.

The Australian stock market closed up 0.71%; resource stocks strengthened; the Australian dollar rebounded.

Real estate stocks rose 2.37%, with Goodman Group up 4.08%, property management firm Dexus up 3.24%, and real estate investment trust and open-ended fund Charter Hall Group up 6.54%.
