Sinopec and TotalEnergies sign agreement to jointly produce sustainable aviation fuel

On March 26, Sinopec and TotalEnergies signed a Heads of Agreement (HoA) in Beijing to jointly produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from used cooking oil at one of Sinopec’s refineries. The new production line will have an annual capacity of 230,000 tons and will be jointly operated by Sinopec and TotalEnergies. Ma Yongsheng, Chairman and Party Secretary of Sinopec, stated that the two parties are key strategic partners and that this collaboration marks a milestone. Sinopec possesses proprietary SRJET technology for producing bio-jet fuel and is committed to enhancing the quality and efficiency of its asset portfolio. As one of Europe’s leading SAF producers, TotalEnergies’ partnership with Sinopec will deliver superior green, low-carbon solutions for China—and the world. Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, said: “We are delighted to partner with Sinopec, a major global refining player, to produce sustainable aviation fuel in China and build a robust SAF value chain.” The development of SAF projects lies at the core of TotalEnergies’ energy transition strategy, addressing the aviation industry’s need to reduce its carbon footprint. The company aims to produce 1.5 million tons of SAF annually by 2030.

Prime Minister Marape noted that the Papua LNG project represents an estimated K60 billion in foreign direct investment for Papua New Guinea—a landmark initiative for the country’s next phase of economic growth. “The Papua LNG project is not just another resource project. It represents approximately K60 billion in foreign direct investment and will be pivotal to Papua New Guinea’s next stage of economic growth,” he said. “It will bring substantial new investment into our economy, generate employment and business opportunities, reinforce our fiscal revenue base, and provide opportunities for Papua New Guineans both during construction and throughout the project’s entire lifecycle.” Prime Minister Marape commended TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil, as well as Papua New Guinea’s national negotiation team, for their constructive efforts in advancing the project.
