Analysis of the latest Russia-Ukraine war situation as of 5:00 a.m. on June 1, 2026 (text version)!

2. Last night, U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News in an interview that the United States and Iran are now close to reaching a "very good deal." Trump added that "we will get an even better deal," and that it should have been concluded sooner. He also stated that, if no agreement is reached, he would call upon the "Department of War"—i.e., the U.S. Department of Defense—to intervene. Trump said that, if he does not get what he wants, he will end it “in another way.” He further noted that signing such an agreement would ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Emphasizing his stance on negotiations with Iran, Trump stressed that he is not in a rush: "If you’re in a rush, you can’t make a good deal." 3. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that its forces have crossed the Litani River and expanded military operations targeting Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon to the river’s northern bank; the scope of these operations continues to widen. Last night, Hezbollah launched drone strikes in southern Lebanon, killing one IDF soldier and lightly wounding four others. The ongoing standoff between Lebanon and Israel has fallen into a vicious cycle of stalled negotiations and escalating hostilities, significantly heightening regional conflict risks. 4. According to TASS, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the European Union cannot serve as a mediator in negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow. Peskov remarked: "The EU is a party to the conflict and therefore cannot act as a mediator in talks with Kyiv." This statement signals Russia’s new position on negotiations—namely, its refusal to accept the EU as a neutral intermediary—and attempts to shift responsibility for the current diplomatic deadlock onto Brussels. In response, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas likewise rejected the idea of appointing an EU special envoy to negotiate with Russia. She asserted that the EU would "never" serve as a neutral mediator between Moscow and Kyiv, emphasizing that the EU openly supports Ukraine while safeguarding its own security interests. "One thing is absolutely clear: Europe will never be a neutral mediator between Russia and Ukraine, because we stand with Ukraine." 5. According to CNN, the most attention-grabbing news over the past 24 hours has been the remarkably positive shift in the U.S. stance toward Ukraine. Early yesterday morning, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, speaking at the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, responded to a journalist’s question regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s appeal for increased Patriot missile deliveries by stating that the United States will dramatically ramp up weapons production capacity to provide Ukraine with "full-spectrum, large-scale" military support. The U.S. is transforming production methods for all critical munitions, substantially increasing output and accelerating delivery timelines across every domain where it can assist Ukraine. Hegseth also affirmed that the U.S. will continue urging European nations to assume greater defense responsibilities and further intensify support for Ukraine. 6. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Finland for delivering its 33rd batch of defense aid to Ukraine, valued at €128 million. "Strong and timely support is precisely what strengthens our defenses and ultimately compels Russia to realize it must end this war," he said, thanking Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and the Finnish people for their unwavering solidarity. 7. According to Reuters, Japan’s Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that it will dispatch four members of the Japan Self-Defense Forces to NATO’s command center in Wiesbaden, Germany.

Striking Europe’s largest nitrogen fertilizer producer; Kyiv’s Southern Bridge bombed and shut down! The four brothers of the Azov Steel Plant reunite at last.

Russian forces have been repeatedly attacking multiple bridges and metro stations across Kyiv city—a fact I previously detailed in earlier articles, which readers may recall. Notably, Russian missiles and kamikaze drones have deliberately targeted metro stations. Metro stations serve as primary air-raid shelters for Kyiv residents during aerial bombardments; any serious incident there would carry catastrophic consequences. Fortunately, according to publicly available reports, although several Kyiv metro stations sustained minor damage due to precision strikes, the situation has not yet deteriorated further—at least for now. Thank God the Russian Iskander-M ballistic missiles are not equipped with bunker-busting warheads; and thanks also to Ukraine’s air defense forces, Russian KH-101 cruise missiles—each carrying an 800-kilogram warhead—have so far failed to strike Kyiv’s metro stations. During the nighttime airstrike on the 27th, in addition to the Pivdennyi Bridge and metro stations, a Kyiv university, Kyiv Park, and multiple residential buildings were also hit, resulting in at least one fatality and nine injuries. Russian missiles and kamikaze drones struck Kyiv’s Dniprovs’kyi District—yet no public information or credible evidence indicates the presence of any military facilities nearby. It has now been over ten days since Ukraine last attacked Russian energy infrastructure—including oil refineries—in compliance with Trump’s so-called "energy ceasefire agreement." Yet Russia has not honored this agreement—not even from the outset: Between the evening of October 25 and early morning of October 26, the Dnistrovsk Hydroelectric Power Station, the Zalutynye Substation, and the port of Chernomorsk were all struck in aerial attacks. Reuters reported on October 26 that, in exchange for Ukraine halting attacks on Russian refineries, the United States resumed providing ballistic missile early-warning data and lifted restrictions on Starlink services. Zelenskyy, meanwhile, set forth his own conditions: Russia must cease striking Ukraine’s power infrastructure; or the U.S. must permit Ukraine to use the Starshield system to detect Russian ballistic missile launch sites; or the U.S. must supply Ukraine with Patriot missiles. The first two conditions—though worthy of mention—are difficult to view optimistically at present. As for the third—delivery of Patriot missiles to Ukraine—the outlook remains equally bleak. On October 26, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would again raise formal inquiries regarding the U.S. delay in delivering Patriot and NASAMS system missiles. Ukraine has awaited U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth’s signature for nearly a month—but Washington has persistently stalled. The Kremlin continues bombing Ukrainian infrastructure and killing Ukrainian civilians with missiles and kamikaze drones, while Trump and his associates play the role of accomplices. As for the sordid affairs involving Trump, Musk, and others—I’ll refrain from elaborating further. Apologies, but I lack sufficient time and energy today; this short piece is all I can manage. Next, I’ll supplement some details about the earlier prisoner exchange that took place on October 23. In the October 23 prisoner swap, two Ukrainian servicemen—both named Dmytro—returned to Ukraine and posed for a photo with their previously released comrades, Maksym and Artyom. All four men were defenders of Mariupol and had been photographed together inside the Azovstal Iron and Steel Works during the siege. Later, along with other Mariupol defenders, they laid down their arms after exhausting all ammunition and following Kyiv’s orders—pursuant to an agreement reached between Ukraine and Russia—only to be betrayed by the Russian government. They were subsequently imprisoned in Russian POW camps.
