Such strong upward thrust reflects strength—not weakness. Trading flattened in August, with the 20-day SMA moving sideways. The Bollinger Bands narrowed, yet APD never closed below the lower band. Both price and the 20-day SMA rose in September. Overall, APD closed above the upper band at least five times within four months. The indicator window displays the 10-period Commodity Channel Index (CCI). A CCI reading below −100 signals oversold conditions; a rebound above −100 marks the start of an oversold bounce (green dashed line). Upper-band tags and breakouts initiated the uptrend; subsequently, the CCI identified tradable pullbacks—readings below −100. This exemplifies combining Bollinger Bands with momentum oscillators to generate trade signals. Figure 7 shows Monsanto (MON) 'walking the lower band.' The stock broke below support in January and closed below the lower Bollinger Band. From mid-January through early May, Monsanto closed below the lower band at least five times. Note that during this period, the stock never once closed above the upper band. This support breakdown—and the initial close below the lower band—marked the onset of a downtrend.
