MRD Technology Makes Its Debut Overseas; IVD Companies Forge Chinese Brands!

Leveraging its proprietary technology named “Zhēn Xīn Ān–MRD” (True Heart Peace–MRD), a leading Chinese enterprise specializing in tumor genetic testing and non-traditional IVD has attracted the attention of a Nasdaq-listed company—marking the first overseas commercialization of MRD (Minimal Residual Disease) technology developed in China—and launching a global commercialization plan beginning in Southeast Asia. It is worth noting that such technology export is extremely rare within the IVD sector—and uncommon across the broader healthcare industry—signaling the rising global competitiveness of Chinese medical technology. The protagonist here is Tongshu Genomics, which recently entered into a globally strategic licensing agreement with Nasdaq-listed BioNexus Gene Lab Corp. (BGLC). Under the agreement, Tongshu Genomics has licensed its independently developed core technology—the “Zhēn Xīn Ān–MRD” platform for monitoring minimal residual disease in tumors—to BGLC and its partners. This move makes Tongshu Genomics the first domestic company to successfully commercialize MRD technology overseas, providing strong validation for the international competitiveness of homegrown Chinese innovation. Historically, China’s medical device industry has primarily relied on exporting equipment or supplying raw materials; high-value-added cases of innovative technology licensing abroad have been exceedingly scarce. Tongshu Genomics’ successful overseas deployment of its core MRD monitoring platform represents a groundbreaking “from zero to one” milestone. Within a certain context, this development indicates that China’s frontier innovations in precision oncology diagnostics have advanced beyond “catching up” and “running alongside” global leaders—entering a new phase of “leading” and “exporting.” Now, let us speak plainly about borderless commerce. Per the agreement, both parties will adopt a phased, systematic global rollout strategy. Phase One will focus initially on ASEAN countries—including Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand—to secure regulatory market access, localize promotion, and implement commercial applications of the VitaGuard™ platform (built upon the “Zhēn Xīn Ān–MRD” technology). Success in this stage will provide critical operational data, clinical practice feedback, and business model validation for subsequent phases. The ultimate goal of the collaboration is to jointly pursue regulatory approvals from the U.S. FDA and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), enabling full-scale commercialization of this MRD technology in mainstream Western markets. This “ASEAN-first, then target Europe and the U.S.” strategic roadmap reflects both parties’ firm confidence in the global clinical and commercial value of the “Zhēn Xīn Ān–MRD” technology. Undoubtedly, this is recognition of technical excellence—backed by rigorous, scientifically validated clinical data. The technology employs an internationally leading second-generation “tumor-naïve” detection approach. Unlike conventional methods requiring matched tumor tissue samples for comparison, the tumor-naïve method achieves ultra-sensitive detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) using blood samples alone—greatly enhancing test accessibility and convenience. Underpinning this technical superiority is a robust, scientifically rigorous clinical validation framework. Based on large-scale, multicenter clinical studies, the “Zhēn Xīn Ān–MRD” technology demonstrates outstanding clinical performance, achieving a negative predictive value (NPV) as high as 94.4%. This means that when the test returns a negative result, there is an exceptionally high probability that no minimal residual disease is present—providing clinicians with a key, reliable decision-making tool for guiding subsequent treatment strategies. Moreover, related research findings have received broad recognition from top-tier international academic circles, with publications appearing in multiple high-impact international journals. The cumulative impact factor of these published papers exceeds 170.
