Whether your answer is ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ you’d technically be correct—it depends entirely on your perspective. In fact, Hong Kong *did* once host a stock priced above HK$10,000 per share: Guangshenghang (Canton Soap Company)—though that was twenty years ago. Today, Tencent remains the highest-priced stock. Yet, if you examine the ten-year weekly charts of certain stocks, you’ll find their historical peaks were indeed in the thousands. At first glance, you might mistakenly conclude that Hong Kong’s economy was extraordinarily robust just a few years ago! Of course, none of these stocks ever truly traded at several thousand Hong Kong dollars per share.
