Juren New Materials: A Company Selling "Plastic Raw Materials"—Only Four Companies Worldwide Can Do This

On August 3, this company will list on the Beijing Stock Exchange under stock code 920258. Its name sounds plain—no surprise if you’ve never heard of it; I hadn’t either until two days ago. Caprolactone—just those three characters—keeps popping up throughout its prospectus. I stared at them for a long time. It sounds obscure, yet the more I read, the more I realized it’s everywhere. Or maybe I was just overwhelmed. I shouldn’t be reading prospectuses at this hour—daytime is too hectic—so I only dive in late at night when my mind finally settles. But once settled, two hours vanish. The deeper I go, the more I realize how shallow my chemical engineering foundation really is. The company manufactures caprolactone—a chemical intermediate used downstream in polyurethanes, biodegradable materials, and medical-grade polymers. I’d planned to summarize it in one sentence, but the more I dug, the more intriguing it became. That biodegradable plastic bag you use, the elastic sole in your sneakers, even suture-grade polymer materials—trace back several tiers of suppliers, and this company might well be involved. Its full name is Hunan Juren New Materials Co., Ltd., founded in 2014 in Yueyang’s Green Chemical Park. Founder Wang Hanyu started it as a technically oriented small factory—no flashy backstory. In 2016, it launched China’s first domestically built kiloton-scale caprolactone production facility—a breakthrough after years of Western restrictions. Since then, it kept scaling up: in 2023, it commissioned the world’s largest single-line continuous-caprolactone plant (50,000 tons/year); in 2024, it launched the world’s first continuous high-molecular-weight poly(caprolactone) production line—specifically targeting domestic substitution in medical materials. Much of this remains half-understood to me—but the certifications it carries are impressive: National “Specialized, Refined, Distinctive, and Innovative” Little Giant Enterprise; High-Tech Enterprise; Green Factory. It holds 38 patents—including 32 invention patents—and has obtained certifications from the EU and South Korea. Such a portfolio is rare among small chemical firms. Caprolactone production carries exceptionally high barriers: globally, only four companies can reliably mass-produce it—Juren, U.S.-based Entegris, Japan’s Daicel, and Germany’s BASF. BASF uses nearly all its output internally, so Juren’s real competitors are Entegris and Daicel. And while BASF is a true giant—struggling even to meet its own internal demand—it doesn’t sell externally at all. So Juren isn’t competing with BASF—it’s directly challenging Entegris and Daicel. These two incumbents—one American, one Japanese—have operated for decades and enjoy deeply entrenched customer loyalty. Juren’s ability to squeeze into this space likely hinges on price advantage and responsiveness. Whether it can sustain that foothold remains uncertain. But wresting market share from two established giants suggests real technical substance—I’m guessing, unverified. The financials left me dizzy. In 2025, revenue reached ¥635 million—up 32.63% year-on-year. Net profit attributable to shareholders hit ¥122 million (+46%), and non-recurring net profit stood at ¥120 million (+59%). The numbers look solid—though my first glance misread ¥635 million as ¥6.35 billion, giving me quite a jolt before I double-checked and confirmed the missing zero. Looking back three years adds further confusion: ¥282 million in 2023, ¥479 million in 2024, and ¥635 million in 2025. Net profit climbed from ¥74.2 million → ¥83.35 million → ¥122 million. The prospectus claims a 49.12% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in revenue over these three years—the highest among 84 chemical manufacturing firms. Its net profit CAGR stands at 37.1%, ranking eighth. I remain skeptical about these rankings—the selection criteria for the 84-company sample and the definition of comparability aren’t disclosed. Treat them as rough references—not gospel. Gross margin is steadily rising.
