In 1951, two subsidiaries were established: Dow Chemical U.S.A., Inc. and Dow Chemical International Ltd. In 1952, Asahi-Dow Company was founded in Japan. In 1954, Dow entered into a joint venture with British Distillers Company to form Distillers Company Ltd. In 1955, Dow established its first manufacturing plant in Europe—producing polystyrene. Dow Chemical operates 32 manufacturing plants across European countries including Belgium, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany; 11 plants in Latin America; and 18 plants across eight countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region—including Australia, Indonesia, and Japan. Dow Chemical is a leading international supplier of basic chemicals and plastics. Its business operations are divided into five divisions: (1) Industrial Chemicals Division; (2) Plastics and Metals Division; (3) Biological Products and Consumer Products Division; (4) Specialty Products Division; and (5) Division providing oilfield production services and equipment, as well as cleaning and mining services and equipment.

Just announced: BYD invests in Dao Shi Technology’s subsidiary; the subsidiary plans to build a RMB 6-billion carbon materials project

On the evening of April 11, Dao Shi Technology (stock code: 300409) announced that, to seize industry development opportunities and advance its strategic plan, its subsidiary, Griffin New Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Griffin”), intends to invest RMB 6 billion to construct a carbon materials R&D and production base in Lanzhou. Upon completion, this project will become a major domestic integrated R&D and production base for carbon nanotube conductive additives and silicon-carbon anode materials. Prior to this announcement, on the evening of April 8, Dao Shi Technology disclosed that Griffin would undergo capital increases from the listed company, employee stock ownership platforms, and other strategic investors—including BYD (stock code: 002594)—to strengthen Griffin’s capital base. The total amount of this round of investment is expected to reach RMB 600 million. The RMB 6-billion Carbon Materials Project to Be Located in Lanzhou According to the announcement, Griffin intends to sign a “Carbon Materials Project Contract” with the Lanzhou New Area Management Committee. Griffin (including, but not limited to, its affiliated entities) plans to establish a new controlling subsidiary in Lanzhou New Area to develop a production facility with annual capacities of: 5,000 tons of carbon nanotube powder; 30,000 tons of carbon nanotube slurry (including related upstream and downstream supporting facilities); and 150,000 tons of silicon-carbon and graphite anode materials, plus graphite processing capacity. Of note, the planned 5,000-ton annual output of carbon nanotube powder corresponds to an additional 100,000-ton annual slurry production capacity—building upon Griffin’s existing 100,000-ton slurry capacity across its various carbon materials bases. Upon completion, the Lanzhou base will become China’s most important integrated R&D and production base for carbon nanotube conductive additives, as well as the technologically most advanced integrated R&D and production base for silicon-carbon anode materials—significantly expanding Griffin’s growth potential in the carbon materials sector. The total planned investment for this project is RMB 6 billion, of which fixed-asset investment amounts to RMB 5.18 billion. The project will be implemented in two phases: Phase I, with a planned investment of RMB 1.895 billion, will focus on constructing 70,000 tons of graphite anode material production capacity (including 100,000 tons of graphite processing capacity), scheduled to commence construction at the end of May 2022 and take 16 months to complete (excluding a three-month winter shutdown period); Phase II, with a planned investment of RMB 3.285 billion, will cover construction of 50,000 tons of silicon-carbon anode material production capacity (including 50,000 tons of graphite processing capacity), 5,000 tons of carbon nanotube powder, 5,000 tons of carbon nanotube purification, 5,000 tons of high-temperature carbon nanotube purification, and 30,000 tons of carbon nanotube slurry—scheduled to commence construction at the end of January 2024 and take 14 months to complete (excluding a three-month winter shutdown period). Regarding funding sources, the announcement states that Phase I construction funds will primarily come from Griffin’s own funds, self-raised capital, and government-supported bank loans. The timing and scale of Phase II investment will depend on the company’s actual operating performance, financial condition, industry trends, and the utilization rate and sales volume of Phase I production capacity. As for why the project is being located in Lanzhou, the company explained that Lanzhou New Area has proactively seized major opportunities such as the national “dual carbon” goals, pioneered new industrial development tracks, and is vigorously building a western China hub for new materials and new-energy storage battery industries—demonstrating strong industrial cluster effects highly synergistic with the company’s carbon materials business.
