A Preliminary Look at the World’s Top Ten Chemical Companies

Today, the A-share Shenzhen and ChiNext indices are in the green; however, I hold no positions in them and have no interest in monitoring the market. Instead, I revisited the topic of early repayment of commercial loans—called my bank to inquire about the latest procedures for early repayment. I learned that it is no longer necessary to visit the city’s headquarters or submit employment/income certificates from one’s employer; instead, one can personally visit any branch during business hours (including Saturdays) with just a bank card and ID card, go to the credit department to fill out the required forms—and still must queue up and wait roughly one month for an appointment. A quick calculation suggested that if I repaid RMB 30,000 before year-end, I could shorten my commercial loan term to 48 months and save over RMB 7,000 in interest. After careful consideration, though, I decided against it. Still, I’m genuinely pleased that banks are becoming increasingly user-friendly and streamlining early repayment procedures. (Note: My lender is China Construction Bank—I’m unaware of the policies at other banks.) If you plan to repay early, be sure to call your local branch’s loan department during business hours for clarification. Back to personal finance topics—let’s get started. I chose the chemical industry for analysis for reasons similar to those behind my earlier choice of shipping: first, it’s cyclical—booming periods bring strong performance; second, it’s capital-intensive, creating high internal barriers to entry that make it difficult for newcomers to surpass incumbents; third, its products serve essential, relatively inelastic demand. In short, it’s like stepping onto a watermelon rind—slippery but potentially rewarding. Next, I’ll publish a follow-up piece on the top ten publicly listed companies on the Indian stock exchange—a topic that popped up after I randomly watched a video.
