Moreover, as far as I know, there isn’t just one approach to solving this problem—there are currently three distinct technological pathways available. It’s akin to an intense "race among alternative routes," where the goal is to see who reaches the finish line first. Next, let me introduce these three key contenders: the Domestic Restart Camp, the Recycling & Circulation Camp, and the Innovation & Disruption Camp. The starting gun has already fired—let’s examine together who stands the best chance of crossing the finish line first. 01 Contender #1: The Domestic Restart Camp (Mining & Refining) This is currently the most widely discussed contender. The revival of California’s Mountain Pass mine is one of the flagship goals of the Domestic Restart Camp. This legendary mine once supplied 60% of the world’s rare earths; it was revived in 2017 with financial backing from the Trump administration and helped propel the U.S. to become the world’s second-largest rare earth producer in 2022 (accounting for 14.3% of global output).
