What is the nature of the Swiss criminal probe that led to the search of Gunvor’s Geneva offices?

The Swiss criminal probe concerns 'persons unknown' suspected of corruption, a term used by Swiss prosecutors when the identities of suspects are not yet established; the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland confirmed the searches were part of this investigation but declined to provide further details.

Is Gunvor itself a target of the Swiss corruption investigation, and what did its internal investigation uncover?

No, Gunvor is not a target of the Swiss investigation; according to its spokesperson, the company initiated an internal investigation after allegations related to the Assala Energy deal in Gabon, but found fraudulent overcharges—totalling approximately $2 million—by a maritime service provider counterparty and a former employee, which it determined was 'separate' and 'unrelated to the Assala Energy acquisition'; Gunvor fired the employee, disclosed findings to authorities, and filed a criminal complaint against the counterparty in Dubai.
