HIMS: Racing Down the 'Miracle Drug' Road—How Long Can Its Profitability Joy Last?

A 'miracle weight-loss drug' ignites a capital market frenzy! In early spring 2025, the 'firestorm' of weight-loss drugs—originating in the labs of Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly—spread all the way to the servers of the telehealth platform Hims & Hers Health. By securing access to two red-hot GLP-1 'weight-loss miracle drugs'—Wegovy and Zepbound—HIMS’s stock shot up like a rocket, its market capitalization repeatedly hitting new highs. As of early May 2025, it had already surged past the $10 billion mark. Its financial results were equally dazzling: Q1 2025 revenue reached $586 million, a staggering 111% year-on-year increase; net profit hit $49.5 million, while adjusted EBITDA soared to $91.1 million—nearly tripling year-on-year. This naturally raises the question: How did HIMS—once known primarily for addressing 'embarrassing health issues' (e.g., hair loss, erectile dysfunction)—transform itself into a 'panacea provider' adored by capital markets? Is this profit-driven euphoria, catalyzed by 'miracle weight-loss drugs,' merely a fleeting celebration—or the overture to sustainable growth? On the broad yet increasingly crowded telehealth赛道, is HIMS’s 'prescription' truly magical? 01 The Rise of the 'Digital Pharmacy'—Joy and Concerns Amid Rapid Growth HIMS’s business story began with a simple yet precise insight: modern urban dwellers—especially young men—are often too embarrassed to discuss certain health concerns, yet crave convenient, private solutions. From initial offerings targeting hair loss and ED, to now encompassing skincare, mental health, and the booming weight-management category, HIMS has steadily evolved into a richly diversified 'digital pharmacy.' Its core model is subscription-based telehealth services: users consult licensed physicians online, receive personalized treatment plans and prescriptions, and have medications delivered directly to their door—with over 90% of its revenue derived from this channel. The appeal of this model is obvious. According to HIMS’s disclosed data, as of the end of Q1 2025, its platform had nearly 2.4 million subscribers—a 38% year-on-year increase. Full-year 2024 revenue totaled $1.5 billion, up 69% year-on-year, and the company achieved full-year net income of $126 million—marking its first profitable year. This growth accelerated further in Q1 2025, with revenue doubling year-on-year and net profit rising substantially. Behind these impressive figures lies HIMS’s sustained investment in user experience and technology-driven innovation. For example, its AI-powered MedMatch system analyzes over 50 million data points to optimize treatment plans and dosing—enhancing personalization. Over half of users have opted for its personalized subscription plans, underscoring this strength. Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) climbed to $84 in Q1 2025—a 53% year-on-year increase—demonstrating strong user stickiness and spending potential. Yet, rapid growth carries its own hidden risks. First, marketing expenses remain stubbornly high. Although marketing spend as a percentage of revenue declined—from 47% in Q1 2024 to 39% in Q1 2025—the absolute amount remains enormous.

VSTAR Daily U.S. Stock Market Update (04/08/2025)

Earnings Report Highlights: Underwhelming Reaction, Yet Performance Still Beats Long-Term Averages The Q2 2025 earnings season has entered its final week of peak activity. So far, 66% of S&P 500 companies have reported results, with 82% beating expectations—above both the 5-year average (78%) and the 10-year average (75%). Market sentiment remains cautious: companies missing estimates saw average share price declines of 5.6%, far exceeding historical averages (2.4%); even those beating expectations posted only modest gains (average +0.9%). This suggests weakening bullish momentum at current elevated levels, with investors reacting conservatively to positive earnings surprises. Looking ahead, slowing employment and weakening consumer demand may continue to dampen investor confidence. While rate cuts could provide short-term support, deteriorating fundamentals would still constrain the market’s upside potential. In the short term, it has broken below its previous all-time high support level, and the MACD bearish crossover signals weakening momentum—yet the medium-to-long-term trend remains intact, supported by an ongoing channel structure. Key downside support lies in the 22,400–22,000 range. Although technical indicators are weak, capital continues flowing into AI and digitalization themes. We recommend waiting for indicator recovery before selectively entering strong tech stocks. VVIX (Volatility of the Volatility Index) Markets Enter a High-Volatility Phase On Friday, both the VIX and VVIX surged sharply—up 21.89% and 11.61%, respectively—signaling a rapid escalation in risk-aversion sentiment and significantly amplified short-term emotional volatility. Both indices broke out strongly above their recent trading ranges on increased volume, potentially foreshadowing more pronounced near-term market corrections. However, U.S. equity futures have edged slightly lower in pre-market trading, suggesting some easing of sentiment. Investors should closely monitor whether geopolitical developments or shifts in rate expectations further intensify volatility. Overall, markets have entered a high-volatility phase, warranting heightened caution in short-term trading.
