Spins are initialized along the easy axis; after equilibration, the system evolves for 10^8 time steps, recording at each step the angle between the spin and the easy axis. Due to symmetry of the anisotropy energy about the easy axis, the probability distribution is reflected about \pi/2 and summed—since at low temperatures spins are confined to the upper energy well (\theta < \pi/2). The excellent agreement between computed distributions confirms correct implementation of the stochastic Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert (LLG) equation. 5.3. Curie Temperature Tests such as Stoner–Wohlfarth hysteresis or the Boltzmann distribution help verify the mechanical correctness of single-spin algorithm implementations, but interacting spin systems pose significant challenges due to the absence of analytical solutions. Therefore, certain well-defined macroscopic properties must be computed to ensure correct implementation of interactions within the system. The Curie temperature T_c of nanoparticles is primarily determined by the strength of exchange interactions among spins, making it an ideal probe for exchange coupling. As noted earlier, the bulk Curie temperature relates to exchange coupling via the mean-field expression in Eq. (9). However, for nanoparticles—with reduced surface coordination numbers and finite spin numbers—the Curie temperature and critical behavior of temperature-dependent magnetization change markedly with particle size. To investigate the effects of finite size and reduced surface coordination on the Curie temperature, the equilibrium magnetization versus temperature was computed for truncated octahedral nanoparticles of varying sizes. The Hamiltonian used in simulations is: H = -\sum_{i \ne j}J_{ij}\mathbf{S}_i\cdot\mathbf{S}_j \tag{28} where J_{ij} = 5.6 \times 10^{-21}\ \mathrm{J/link}, and the crystal structure is face-centered cubic (FCC), considered representative of cobalt nanoparticles. Given the relatively strong exchange interactions, magnetic anisotropy typically has negligible influence on the material’s Curie temperature; thus, anisotropy is omitted from the Hamiltonian solely for simplicity. The system is simulated using the Monte Carlo method, with 10,000 equilibration steps and 20,000 averaging steps. Temperature is increased in increments of 10\ \mathrm{K}, using the final configuration from the previous temperature as the initial state for the next, thereby reducing the number of steps required to reach thermal equilibrium. The average temperature-dependent magnetization for different particle sizes is shown in Figure 8.

The dependence of the apparent equilibrium constant K on total system concentration, obtained from two mutually independent sets of calculations, is plotted in Figure 2; the two datasets exhibit extremely high agreement. Both sets indicate that the apparent equilibrium constant K varies linearly with the square root of the total concentration—a trend fully consistent with the Debye–Hückel theory (Eq. 13), which relates the apparent equilibrium constant K to the standard thermodynamic equilibrium constant K⊖ (by definition, K⊖ is concentration-independent). Fitting the simulation data in Figure 2 using Eq. (13) yields K⊖; the standard thermodynamic equilibrium constant K⊖ is also fitted using the simulation data in Figure 3. Based on transient-region data (computed via K = k_+/k_−), the fitted value is K⊖ = 0.1201; based on equilibrium-state data (computed via K = [C+]_eq^2 / [C]_eq^2), the fitted value is K⊖ = 0.1206. Thus, the results from transient and equilibrium analyses show excellent self-consistency. This demonstrates that describing electrostatic interactions via Debye–Hückel theory suffices to accurately capture how the apparent equilibrium constant K varies with total concentration. Result II: Realistic vascular culture—zebrafish hindbrain Figure 4 shows Kr (black), KDHr (red), calculated using Eq. (36), and K dHr (blue), calculated using Eq. (35). Figure 5 shows the time evolution of neutral nanoparticle concentration [C](t) under different total concentrations: (i) solid lines represent simulation outputs from the transient regime; (ii) dashed lines represent predictions of the three-step model under the steady-state approximation, where forward and reverse rate constants k_+ and k_− are solved from Eqs. (39) and (40), then substituted into Eq. (16) for calculation. Figure 4 compares two types of data: (a) analytical estimates of the apparent equilibrium constant Kr derived from Eq. (36) (red circles); and (b) simulation results computed from equilibrium concentrations using Eq. (32) (black circles). The screening parameter κ, back-calculated from equilibrium simulations, falls within the range 4–10 nm. The excellent agreement between the two datasets indicates that, for the system studied here (relatively low concentrations of charged species), the Debye–Hückel approximation accurately describes the dominant electrostatic interactions. For completeness, Figure 5 also includes the prediction curve (blue) directly calculated from charge-separation effects via Eq. (35); this result likewise agrees closely with simulations under dilute-solution conditions. Overall, the ion atmosphere plays only a minor role in this system (the relative error between predictions from Eqs. (35) and (36) is approximately 1%). Figure 5 presents the time evolution curves of neutral nanoparticle concentration [C](t) (solid lines) for various systems, alongside predictions of the three-step model under the steady-state approximation (dashed lines). The three-step model can be reduced to a single-step reaction model; this simplification can be rationalized using radiation boundary conditions (Collins–Kimball boundary conditions): diffusion-controlled encounter competes with finite intrinsic reactivity—a conceptual framework highly analogous to the analysis by Zhou and Szabo. Conclusions and Significance This work constructs a self-consistent theoretical framework for reactive nanoparticle solutions by integrating mesoscale simulations with macroscopic modeling. At the mesoscale, the system is described in terms of individual nanoparticles: particles undergo Brownian motion, interact pairwise via van der Waals and Coulomb potentials, and stochastically transition between states according to prescribed reaction probabilities.
