Demand for imported hardwood pulp has weakened at lower price points, and supplies of certain brands recently available on the market are relatively scarce, supporting price increases. For imported unbleached kraft pulp and imported chemi-mechanical pulp, both supply and demand remain weak, resulting in generally stable pricing; however, available market supplies in this region are limited. Softwood pulp: UPM spruce pulp (U-SP) and Botnia spruce pulp (B-SP) quoted at RMB 5,000–5,200/ton; Moon pulp at RMB 5,400–5,450/ton; Lion and Mapa pulps at RMB 5,450–5,480/ton; Northwood pulp at RMB 6,100–6,150/ton; Silver Star pulp at RMB 5,750–5,770/ton; Kappa pulp at RMB 5,770/ton; Golden Lion pulp at RMB 6,300/ton. International Paper Agrees to Acquire DS Smith in All-Stock Deal Valued at $7.2 Billion

On April 16, International Paper Company (IP.US) announced it has agreed to acquire UK-based paper and packaging company DS Smith in an all-stock transaction valued at £5.8 billion (US$7.2 billion). Upon completion of the merger, DS Smith shareholders will hold approximately 33.7% of the combined company, while International Paper shareholders will hold the remainder. International Paper plans to seek a secondary listing in London. DS Smith stated it would recommend that its shareholders support the transaction with International Paper, adding that it had recently received acquisition proposals from both International Paper and Mondi.
