Phillips 66’s Development History Phillips 66 (PSX) originated from ConocoPhillips and was established as a downstream-focused company following ConocoPhillips’ strategic repositioning; its formation was officially announced by the Board of Directors on April 4, 2012. On May 1, 2012, ConocoPhillips spun off its midstream and downstream businesses, and Phillips 66 began trading independently on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker: PSX). The upstream business remained with ConocoPhillips, while the downstream Phillips 66 common stock issuance created a standalone, publicly traded company—ConocoPhillips retained no ownership stake.
