How should we view the renewed outbreak of conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement on September 7, 2026? Is the Houthis’ combat capability truly as formidable as rumored?

Consider these real-world combat examples to draw your own conclusions: After Houthi drones detected a large number of ammunition transport vehicles at a Saudi base, the group launched multiple ballistic missiles. One missile detonated in mid-air, igniting the ammunition trucks—triggering a chain reaction of secondary explosions. The Houthis even released video footage of the incident; viewers can watch it for themselves. Houthi drones also spotted three armored personnel carriers parked closely together, with personnel disembarking to hold what was reportedly a meeting of pro-Saudi commanders. A short-range ballistic missile was immediately fired—and struck the target with pinpoint accuracy. Since the start of hostilities, the Houthis have shot down multiple Chinese-made CH-4 (Rainbow-4) armed drones operated by Saudi forces, and have conducted large-scale strikes using ballistic missiles and drones against Saudi air bases and oil refineries. Moreover, Houthi media released an extended video showing a large multi-rotor drone dropping bombs on ground targets—causing significant casualties and equipment losses. Taken together, these incidents demonstrate that the Houthis constitute a force not to be underestimated, possessing astonishingly rapid learning capabilities. On one hand, they are fully embracing the drone era—extensively deploying various drone types for reconnaissance, fire-direction, and direct strikes. On the other, their use of ballistic missiles has reached a level of mastery. In air defense, their effectiveness in hunting down Saudi surveillance-and-strike drones has markedly improved.
