The agreement will also double China’s LNG imports from the U.S. Last year, the U.S. ranked sixth among China’s LNG suppliers, providing 3.1 million tons. The announcement states that both 20-year agreements are sales-and-purchase contracts. While it does not specify when deliveries will commence, it notes that the contracts were actually signed last month. Reportedly, one contract covers 2.8 million tons of LNG per year sold on an FOB (free-on-board) basis, while the other covers 1.2 million tons per year delivered on a CIF (cost, insurance, and freight) basis. According to another document posted on a U.S. government website, Global Venture LNG has also signed a third agreement with Unipec—the trading subsidiary of Sinopec—to supply China with 1 million tons of LNG annually for three years, beginning March 1, 2023, from another U.S. production facility.
